NOT MY pres drumpf / trump, NOT MY vp vance, their corrupt administration, especially Sec of Homeland Security markwayne mullin, along with their complicit democratic and gop / greed over people-republicans in congress are violating human rights and American civil liberties and are committing crimes against humanity by detaining people in conditions reminiscent of nazi concentration camps, soviet gulags, japanese pow camps, chinese prisons, saudi prisons, and israeli prisons for palestinians. We used to be better than most of the world in how we treated people held in our prison systems. Now we are being listed as among the worst. Please e mail your representative and senators demanding Homeland Security correct these detention violations immediately and demanding charges be brought against individuals and companies who created these deplorable conditions or at the least allowed them to develop. Where warranted criminal charges must be filed. My e mails at the end of this post..... Deaths in ICE custody are skyrocketing, with 47 people dying in ICE jails in the 15 months since Trump took office.1 Detainees are being denied basic medical care while enduring sweltering temperatures, outbreaks of tuberculosis and measles, filthy drinking water, rotten food, and overflowing toilets.2 At least 33 people died in ICE custody last year — the most ever in a single year. But this year, ICE is on track to nearly double even that horrific death toll.3 Last week, a surprise visit to an Arizona ICE detention center by three members of Congress uncovered "absolutely shameful" overcrowding, with dozens of people "packed like sardines" into tiny cells.4 In addition, a number of deaths have been suspiciously passed off as "suicides," and in January, a guard choked a prisoner to death in a case ruled a homicide by the county medical examiner.5,6 Sources: The Trump administration is planning to detain some 80,000 immigrants in warehouses across the United States. Data from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) reveals how the number of its detention facilities has been expanding in recent years, with at least 103 additional facilities opening since fiscal year 2024. According to ICE data, there were 212 such detention centers nationwide in December, holding an average daily population (ADP) of over 65,500 people - among these, children. The following chart shows where detention centers are concentrated. Texas has by far the highest number of facilities of any state at 27, followed by Florida with 17 and Louisiana with 11. The detention centers with the highest average daily populations are ERO El Paso Camp East Montana in Texas (2,902 detainees), Adams County Correctional Center in Mississippi (2,184) and Stewart Detention Center in Georgia (2,001). At the other end of the scale, 45 of the detention centers had an average daily population of 1-10 people. Between October 1 and December 26, data shows that 20 detention facilities each held average daily populations exceeding 1,000 people. Anna Fleck Data Journalist anna.fleck@statista.com
