June 1, 2026 Are you ready for the White House cage fight? You know, that monstrosity taking shape on the South Lawn? I've been loosely following the details in advance of the June 14 event, which, according to our president, is drawing unprecedented attention. Personally, mixed martial arts are not my thing. But if you're in the military and want tickets, you better make sure you're in top shape. Because organizers only want the fittest troops in attendance. As I noted this weekend: That’s according to internal memos seen by the Washington Post, including one demanding that troops “MUST MEET CURRENT WAIST-HEIGHT RATIO” and wear short-sleeved uniforms. Another memo revealed that the Pentagon is soliciting only junior-level officers. In other words: No heavyweights. You better be jacked. And no old people. Absurd, no? Then again, this is Pete Hegseth's Pentagon, and the defense secretary is outright hostile toward what he disparages as "fat troops." So it makes sense, in these tortured times, that the White House is enacting strict physical requirements for President Trump's brawl. Blanche In our latest case against the ongoing abuses of ICE and other federal agents – and in defense of our First Amendment rights – we're suing on behalf of Memphis residents who were retaliated against for recording immigration and law enforcement activity. We can't hold our government accountable if we can't see what they're up to. We just filed declarations from these clients last Thursday – here's what to know about their experiences and the suit as it stands: Thousands of federal, state, and local agents have been aggressively patrolling Memphis for months. The 31-agency task force, which includes ICE, CBP, the U.S. Marshals, and the Tennessee Highway Patrol, has wreaked havoc on the community since it arrived in September 2025. Memphis residents report that agents have: Tackled an observer trying to record, pinning her down, arresting, and jailing her Swerved at or boxed in observers with their vehicles Subjected observers to retaliatory traffic stops Photographed observers' faces, vehicles, and license plates Tailed observers in their vehicles and sat outside their homes Identified and taunted observers by name, when observers have never met them before Shined bright lights at observers' faces, phones, and cameras to obscure filming Craig, the Memphis Safe Task Force has terrorized local communities, conducting mass traffic stops and large-scale immigration arrests. Agents have conducted over 124,000 traffic stops – primarily in Black and brown neighborhoods. Of the 3,000 people arrested in the first two months of the Task Force, only 6% were white. Now, our clients are facing retribution simply for filming these abusive operations. We'll be clear: Our right to record law enforcement's public actions is protected by the First Amendment, full stop. And we at the ACLU will always be here to defend that right. Spanberger veto sparks debate over ICE enforcement in courthouses 25MAI26

 I had my doubts about spanberger when she was running for governor of Virginia, I just did not get a good feeling from her, definitely not that she was a champion for the poor, working class and middle class of the Commonwealth and I was right. I am glad I didn't waste any time or money on her campaign, I didn't even have one of her bumper stickers on my Jeep. I did vote for her as a lesser of two evils, the gop / greed over people-republican candidate, winsome earle-sears, was and probably still is a voluntarily ignorant trumper, stupid and evil to the core. We are stuck with Gov spanberger for 4 years and will just have to keep on top of her and the assembly in Richmond to keep her damage to a minimum. This on one of her betrayals and I honestly hope she sometime experiences the same kind of abuse from "law enforcement" that she is willing to allow others to suffer. From WRIC.....

Spanberger veto sparks debate over ICE enforcement in courthouses

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Gov. Abigail Spanberger (D) has vetoed legislation that would have limited certain warrantless ICE arrests inside Virginia courthouses, known as HB650 and SB351, according to the ACLU of Virginia.

“Since January of 2025, we’ve seen a huge surge in ICE showing up in Virginia courthouses without judicial warrants, picking people up who are just there to do their business,” said Chris Kaiser, policy director for the ACLU of Virginia.

Kaiser said the situation is already having an impact on court participation.

“It’s had a serious deterrent effect on people coming to court seeking help – not to mention a threat to Virginia’s authority to run its own judicial system,” Kaiser said.

In explaining her veto, Spanberger said she shares concerns over “dangerous and unchecked federal immigration enforcement actions,” but said House Bill 650 would not achieve its intended purpose.

Instead, she pointed to her Executive Order 16, which directs state entities, public institutions and agencies across the Commonwealth to develop guidelines for how to handle ICE encounters in those locations.

Kaiser said the executive order does not provide the same protections as the rejected legislation.

“They’re doing two totally different things,” Kaiser said. “Nothing in the executive order suggests those workgroups will come up with guidance restricting warrantless arrests like the bills would have.”
