September 10, 2026 The year is 2026, and by now, you know, with clarity, that Donald Trump is a brazen liar with an unusually impressive record of promising free cash—only to rarely ever fulfill those lofty pledges. It is the personality of a deadbeat that long precedes his entry into politics. But rabid cheers greeted the president’s offer to hand out $5,000 checks to every adult in the United States if Republicans win both the House and Senate in the November midterms. So here is my declaration, because this news cycle apparently requires one: This man is not going to give you $5,000. Why? Just take a stroll through his record of promising free cash, only to renege on an overwhelming number of those lofty offers. Need evidence?
