Warren Hosts US-Canada Friendship Walk

Warren, PA — Community members gathered in Warren on Thursday evening for a US-Canada Friendship Walk held in recognition of Welcoming Week, celebrating the connections between residents of the United States and Canada.

Participants gathered at Crescent Park before crossing the Veterans Memorial Bridge and walking into the city, bringing together Warren-area residents with personal and family ties to Canada.

As the group made its way into Warren, passing motorists honked their horns in support, adding to the atmosphere of the evening.

For some participants, the walk was a way to recognize family members who live across the border.

“We are here to honor my 80 cousins who live in Ontario,” one participant said.

Event organizer Timothy Salapeck said the turnout reflected the close relationships between Warren residents and their neighbors in Canada.

“This just indicates how close of a community we are here, as well as with our neighbors across the border,” Salapeck said. “All of us travel back and forth, visiting Canada, the Falls, and our land here.”

The event also highlighted the shared connections between communities on both sides of the border, including travel, friendships and family relationships.

Pat Evans, a participant in the walk, described the evening as a celebration of the relationship between the United States and Canada.

“This evening was a celebration of the best next-door neighbor that any country could have,” Evans said.

Evans also noted that many Warren-area residents travel to Toronto for air travel and share Niagara Falls with their Canadian neighbors.

The US-Canada Friendship Walk was part of Welcoming Week, which continues throughout the region through September 19th. The week features events recognizing connections among people from different backgrounds and communities.

The evening's walk concluded with participants gathering in Warren to celebrate the US-Canada relationship and the personal ties that connect the two countries.
