Former attorney, political candidate sentenced to 20 years for sexually abusing minor in 2016
BOISE, Idaho — A Boise man has been sentenced to prison for sexually abusing a minor.
Ryan Dewayne Jenks, 46, was sentenced by District Judge Lynn Norton to a unified term of 20 years in prison, with three years fixed and 17 years indeterminate, after pleading guilty to one felony count of lewd conduct with a minor under the age of 16.
Jenks admitted in court to molesting the victim on several occasions in 2016, when she was 12 years old.
Judge Norton said a lesser sentence would diminish the seriousness of the offense and the harm caused to the victim.
“What happened to this victim was devastating and caused significant emotional harm,” said Jan Bennetts. “We commend detectives with the Ada County Sheriff’s Office who helped ensure justice for the victim.”
According to previous reporting by KTVB, Jenks was also a Nampa attorney and ran as the Republican candidate for the Idaho House of Representatives in 2014, losing to incumbent Democrat Ilana Rubel. He later drew public attention in 2020 when he spoke at the “Disobey Idaho” protest at the Idaho State Capitol during demonstrations against Governor Brad Little’s COVID-19 stay-at-home order.
According to business records previously obtained by KTVB, Jenks was a co-founder and partial owner of Brighter Future Health Inc., which provides mental health services to children, teens, and adults in Boise and Nampa.
Jenks was first arrested on Feb. 12, 2025, following an investigation by the Ada County Sheriff’s Office. He was initially charged with three felonies: one count of lewd conduct with a minor under 16 and two counts of sexual abuse of a minor under 16. Court documents show he was served with a no-contact order the following day. He was sentenced an exact year to the date of his arrest.
