If you’re not paying attention to the midterm primary elections, you probably should be. Every two years, Democrats and Republicans fight for control of Congress. But the lead-up to this year’s Election Day is unprecedented and constantly shifting.
Earlier this year, the Supreme Court voted down a key provision in the Voting Rights Act that long allowed states to consider race when drawing their electoral maps. That has spurred a number of states, especially Republican-led states in the South, to redraw their maps, a move that could disenfranchise Black voters.
On top of that, there are highly contentious races to watch. Will Republicans be able to keep their seats this fall? Will Democrats be able to flip both the House and the Senate?
To help us keep track of the primaries and look ahead to November’s midterms, we brought in our colleague Mother Jones national correspondent Tim Murphy. Tim breaks down the races and the ongoing redistricting efforts. It’s an important discussion. I hope you’ll take a listen.
