To everyone who entertained my mindless musings about the ethics of ordering off the kid's menu, thank you. It was genuinely fascinating to read all of your thoughts! Many of you rushed to my support, calling it a perfectly acceptable practice. Others, rather angrily, instructed me to stay at home if I couldn't afford to eat out, to which I feel the need to clarify: I can afford an adult burger—after all, I'm getting martinis with my buttered noodles—but I was arguing out of principle! Who doesn't love an asinine, low-stakes debate?
Speaking of, like many of you, I'll be watching tomorrow's vice presidential debate between Tim Walz and JD Vance. As Mark Leibovich recently wrote in the Atlantic, it strikes me as pretty odd that we haven't seen more of Walz on national media. After all, he's proved to be an especially compelling politician, while Vance, on the other hand, appears committed to being one of the most uncharismatic characters on the Sunday morning circuit.
Oh and as for the question of whether I'll be altering my restaurant behavior in light of my recent newsletter. After much, much consideration, I think I'll be sticking to the occasional kid's offering.
Because as one reader poetically asked, "Do we ever outgrow being a child?"
