I can relate to this because I am aware of a executive who told a couple of his underlings about spending over $2000 on a diving stone he had installed at the edge of his home pool and how exhausting it was dealing with hiring a crane and crew to lift this stone into his backyard and the expense. His underlings hadn't had a pay raise in over 12 years......
