Dear Friend,
A lot is going on at Sea Shepherd! We have multiple campaigns running
right now, and we are gearing up for this year's Cove Guardian Campaign
and Antarctic Whale Defense Campaign. In addition, Captain Watson is in
an undisclosed location to assure his safety from the corruption from
Japan and Costa Rica being facilitated by Germany. We have more on this
below, but we want to assure you that, regardless of what you see in
other media reports, there are no new warrants out for Captain Watson's
arrest as a result of his departure from Germany. He did forfeit his
bail and leave Germany, but this is not illegal in that country and
German officials are not searching for him.
This is a trying time for Sea
Shepherd, but we have fought these types of battles before and we always
prevail! Our detractors relentlessly continue to plunder the oceans and
target us
more than any other group because
we are so effective at what we do. We are known for negating illicit
profits from poachers and making a difference for the
animals that are so important to
the health and longevity of our
oceans. We are unique, strong, and
progressive. And the stronger we get, the more effective we become.
Support from people like you makes what we do possible. Will you donate today to help our cause of defending ocean wildlife worldwide?

Captain Watson Has Departed Germany
|
Captain
Watson has left Germany and is in a safe, undisclosed location. In his
first message to supporters since departing Germany, he tells us all why
he made the decision to leave.
The message was relayed to Sea
Shepherd HQ via Captain Watson's attorney and confirms our suspicions:
the Japanese government is making backroom deals with Costa Rica and
Germany to try to extradite him. Read Captain Watson's complete message here...

Costa Rica Elevates Politically Motivated Attack on Our Captain and Sea Shepherd
|
Interpol
yesterday announced it has issued a "Red Notice" to its member nations
for Captain Paul Watson. This action occurred after Costa Rica revised
its paperwork and resubmitted its request to Interpol seeking Captain
Watson's detention or arrest with the intent to extradite him to Costa
Rica.
An Interpol Red Notice is not an international arrest warrant. Learn more about what this means for our Captain and for Sea Shepherd...

Op Kimberley Miinimbi — Defending the World's Largest Humpback Whale Nursery
|
Whale
nurseries and gas factories don't mix! At the request of the native
Goolarabooloo people of Western Australia, we have recently launched a
campaign to protect ecologically sensitive humpback whale breeding
grounds at James Price Point from being damaged in the wake of a
proposed natural gas hub project.
Learn more about this campaign and keep up with the news via our Operation Kimberley Miinimbi campaign website!

Op Requiem — Saving Sharks, One Village
at a Time
|
With
Operation Requiem we are educating native South Pacific populations
about why our future depends on protecting the magnificent shark. These
animals have been around since the time of the dinosaurs and have shaped
the very evolution of all other life in the sea. They are vital for the
stability and health of our oceans, yet up to 90% of shark populations
have been depleted in the last 40 years, and about 8,000 sharks are
killed on this planet each hour.
Come along on our travels
as we work to save sharks by meeting with local government officials,
teaching schoolchildren why sharks are necessary for the health of the
oceans, and so much more.

Announcing the Winners of our "Save Our Skipper" Online Visual Petition Contest
|
We received more than 1,000
images spanning virtually all visual arts mediums, from photography and
watercolor paintings, to cartoons and striking computer-generated
images, which were submitted by individuals around the world who were
moved to speak up in pictures for our oceans.
Contest entrants were asked to
answer one of two questions: “Why is Captain Paul Watson important to
our planet?” or “Why does Sea Shepherd matter to you?” See the winning entries here...

The "Free Paul Watson" T-shirt
|
Even though Captain Watson has
left Germany in order to avoid the Japanese Government's extradition
request, he is by no means a FREE man. Show your support for Captain
Watson, by ordering this limited edition “Free Paul Watson” t-shirt.
This t-shirt
marks a special part of Sea Shepherd’s history, when global powers
sought to cage the Captain for the Whales! It also features Captain
Watson’s most notable quote, “If the Oceans Die, We Die!”
All proceeds from the Sea Shepherd e-Stores support our efforts to defend ocean wildlife worldwide!

|
We have too big of a mission and
too important of a mission to let a few corrupt groups of people thwart
our efforts. We have never backed down from poachers and we never will.
I know the current situation with me is unnerving, but rest assured
this is not a stumbling block for Sea Shepherd. We are strong — and we
are strong because of you! We have numerous campaigns, captains,
crewmembers, and an incredible support base in place, but we need your
help to continue our vital work.
We work hard to ensure that your
donated funds are used wisely and
effectively to defend and protect
marine wildlife and we get results. Last year, 86% of our total expenses
went directly to our campaigns and with the seven campaigns we mounted
during that time we saved hundreds, if not thousands, of whales, bluefin
tuna, dolphins, sharks, and seals. Donate today to keep our ships at sea and our campaigns making progress for marine animals worldwide! Thank-you!
For the oceans,
Captain Paul Watson
