Bryan Brothers Win Doubles Gold At London Olympics(1)  (2)

The U.S. men's doubles team of Bob and Mike Bryan won their first Olympic gold medal Saturday, beating France's Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Michael Llodra, 6-1, 7-6 (6-2), in a game that was far more entertaining than its score might suggest.

U.S. Flag Gets Blown Away At Tennis Medal Ceremony(9)  (9)

The U.S. flag fell from the display rod during Saturday's Olympic medal ceremony at Wimbledon, after Serena Williams' victory. The flag was collected in the stands and sent onto the court.
One minute, the American flag was flying in the wind. The next, it was simply flying away. That was the scene Saturday at Wimbledon, after Serena Williams won the gold medal in women's single tennis, beating Russia's Maria Sharapova.

Serena Williams hits a return to Russia's Maria Sharapova during their final tennis match in the 2012 London Olympic Games at the All England Tennis Club in Wimbledon. Williams won, 6-0, 6-1.
American Serena Williams stormed her way to an Olympic gold medal Saturday, dominating the final against Maria Sharapova of Russia. It is the first individual gold medal for Williams, who has twice won in Olympic doubles.

Good morning. As we start Day 8 of the London Olympics, big news is already happening. We posted earlier about Oscar Pistorius's historic run in the men's 400 meters. Later, an American woman set a world record in Olympic shooting. And a triathlon came down to the wire.

For Nigeria's Basketball Fans, U.S. Blowout Can't Dampen Spirits(10)  (3)

Nigerian fan Ifeoluwa Akande holds his country's flag as he watches Nigeria's basketball team lose to the United States by a record 83 points.
The American men's basketball team has faced criticism for Thursday night's 156-73 blowout victory over Nigeria at the London Olympics. At the arena, NPR editor Vickie Walton-James spoke to Nigerian fans, to learn what they thought about being on the wrong end of a record score

Oscar Pistorius Makes Olympic History In 400 Meters, And Moves On To Semifinal(33)  (8)

Oscar Pistorius of South Africa, center, became the first amputee to run in the Olympics. He came in second to Luguelin Santos of the Dominican Republic, to advance to the men's 400m semifinals.
Sprinter Oscar Pistorius, the double-amputee who has for years sought to run in the Olympic Games, finally got his wish Saturday, when he ran in a preliminary heat in the men's 400 meters in London's Olympic Stadium. But he wasn't content with making history as the Olympics' first amputee runner.

Saudi Arabia's First Female Olympian Makes History In Judo Match(17)  (19)

Wojdan Shaherkani of Saudi Arabia (left) met Melissa Mojica in the women's +78 kg judo in London. Their match was short, but historic.
August 3, 2012 Wojdan Shaherkani wasn't a threat to win her match against Puerto Rico's Melissa Mojica. But Shaherkani competed for Saudi Arabia in the Olympics, becoming the first woman ever to do so.

Track Cyclist's Admitting To Intentional Crash Won't Bring Investigation(10)  (3)

The British sprint team of Philip Hindes (front), Jason Kenny and Sir Chris Hoy won a gold medal Thursday, but remarks by Hindes caused concerns about athletes' ethics to resurface. The IOC says it will not investigate.
August 3, 2012 If one thing is clear at these London Games, it's that not doing one's best is not only uncool — it's not allowed. Witness the badminton-to-worstminton scandal that erupted earlier this week. But in track cycling, what seems to be an admission of crashing on purpose won't bring an inquiry.

Phelps And Franklin Add To Their Medal Totals, And A New Teen Phenom Emerges(6)  (7)

American Katie Ledecky seemed to be in disbelief as she hugged bronze medalist Rebecca Adlington of Great Britain. Ledecky, 15, won the women's 800m freestyle by four seconds in London.
August 3, 2012 In one of the last big showcases for swimming at the London Summer Olympics, American athletes Michael Phelps and Missy Franklin add to their medal totals, and another U.S. teen takes a gold medal.

August 3, 2012 Want to know a secret? London has been a great place to visit during the Olympics. The city hasn't come to a grinding halt. The weather has not been awful; the sun has even been shining. And London has put out the welcome mat to visitors.
