Tom Perriello Releases Two New TV Ads, Featuring Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Outlining His Vision for Virginia, and Urging Voters to Believe ‘Progress is Possible’

Today, Tom Perriello is releasing the fourth and fifth ads of his Democratic campaign for Virginia governor. The ads will air across Virginia in the final eight days of the primary campaign.

In the first ad, “Make Change,” U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren, who has endorsed Tom, speaks about Tom’s values, saying, “He’s somebody who says: I am going to make change — and I’m gonna make change not for the richest, not for the most powerful. I’m gonna make change to make this economy work better for hard-working families. That’s who he is.” The ad features footage from Tom’s rally with U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders this spring and his 2010 rally with President Barack Obama in Charlottesville, before closing with Tom speaking about his vision to leave no race or region behind in giving Virginians opportunities to succeed. Finally, Virginians are urged to vote June 13 as Tom says, “Let’s prove that Donald Trump’s values are not Virginia values.”

The second ad, “Progress is Possible,” features Tom speaking directly to Virginians, urging them to believe that progress is possible, despite threats to our values by President Donald Trump. “We’re not a nation of hate,” Tom says, before speaking of his family’s immigrant history. He then goes on to outline his agenda and vision for Virginia as governor, saying, “I’m running for governor because every Virginian deserves a shot, regardless of race or region. That means higher wages, good jobs in forgotten communities, and lower student debt. It won’t happen overnight, but we can never stop believing progress is possible.”

The ads will air statewide, joining previously released ads on air, until primary day, June 13.

We’re not a nation of hate. My immigrant grandfather came to America with a dream, and my dad lived it as a pediatrician here in Virginia. But these values are threatened by President Trump and an economy where too many struggle to get by.

The Congressional Budget Office just released the latest report on the devastating impacts of the Republican’s health care bill and I wanted to share them with you. It shows what’s at stake in this election and what we have to fight for.

Under this bill:

• As many as 23 million Americans will be uninsured.
• Premiums for many will jump 20% next year.
• If governors and states accept the waiver, insurers in those states will drop people with pre-existing conditions, and premiums for low-income seniors could go up 800%.

Our likely Republican opponent Ed Gillespie has already gone on the record saying he is open to these waivers, endangering the health care of hundreds of thousands of Virginians. We can’t sit back for a second.

Call your member of Congress tomorrow, call your Senators, visit their local offices, and write a letter if you can. Do everything in your power to fight this bill and make sure they hear from you.

Last week’s House vote significantly raised the stakes of this year’s election in Virginia. If Obamacare is repealed, a whopping 79% of Virginians could be uninsured. More than 600,000 Virginians could lose coverage. Premiums could go up by thousands of dollars for coverage of everything from a pregnancy to asthma.

Republicans are trying to take us backward. They want to rip affordable health care from the people and give all the power back to the insurance companies. Under their repeal plan, insurance companies can jack up their rates, reduce coverage, and even deny coverage to millions with pre-existing conditions. Real people will lose their financial security and the care they need. This will happen in every state, city, community, and neighborhood in America.

If Republicans are successful, we’ll have only one line of defense: Democratic governors and state legislatures. That’s why I’m asking you to stand with me in this important fight in Virginia.

Tom Perriello was a champion for affordable health care in 2010 and stood with President Obama and our administration even if it cost him his seat in Congress. I am confident that as governor of Virginia, Tom will never back down from Republican attacks -- and will always fight for what’s right for Virginia families.
