STARBUCKS, GREEN MOUNTAIN COFFEE AND MONSANTO THINK YOU ARE STUPID 8NOV14

Revised Seal copy
DAVID vs Goliath. VERMONT vs the companies of the grocery manufacturers association including starbuck's, green mountain coffee and monsanto. This organization, a front for big agribusiness, doesn't want you know if there are gmos in your food and drink because you are too stupid to understand gmos. Vermont thinks food and drink labels should inform the consumer if there are gmos in it so individuals can decide if they want to buy it or not. Please sign this petition from +SumOfUs .org to show starbuck's and green mountain coffee to quit the grocery manufacturer's association and end their support of the lawsuit against Vermont and to honor and respect each person's right to choose whether or not they want gmos in their food and drink.......
Starbucks has teamed up with Monsanto to sue Vermont, and stop accurate food labeling.
Tell Starbucks and Green Mountain Coffee to withdraw support for the lawsuit -- we have a right to know what we put in our mouths.

Starbucks doesn't think you have the right to know what's in your coffee. So it's teamed up with Monsanto to sue the small U.S. state of Vermont to stop you from finding out.
Hiding behind the shadowy "Grocery Manufacturers Association", Starbucks is supporting a lawsuit that's aiming to block a landmark law that requires genetically-modified ingredients be labeled. Amazingly, it claims that the law is an assault on corporations' right to free speech. Even a local Vermont company, Green Mountain Coffee, has joined in.
SumOfUs members have already chipped in to support Vermont's legal defense fund. Now, we need to undermine the Grocery Manufacturers Association's base. Monsanto might not care what we think -- but as a public-facing company, Starbucks does. If we can generate enough attention, we can push Starbucks to withdraw its support for the lawsuit, and then pressure other companies to do the same.
Sign the petition to tell Starbucks and Green Mountain Coffee to withdraw their support for the lawsuit against Vermont, and stop fighting accurate food labeling.
Vermont is a small, entirely rural state with just 600,000 people. It’s a classic David and Goliath fight between Vermont and Monsanto. Considering that Starbucks has been progressive on LGBT and labor issues in the past, it's disappointing that it is working with the biggest villain of them all, Monsanto.
There’s much more at stake here than just whether GMO foods will be labeled in a single U.S. state. Vermont is the very first state in the U.S. to require labeling. Dozens of other states have said that they will follow this path -- in order to encourage this, we need to ensure that Vermont's law stands strong.
That's why Monsanto and its new allies are fighting so hard to kill GMO labeling in Vermont.
But whatever you think of GMOs, corporations should not be using massive lawsuits to overturn legitimate, democratic decisions with strong public backing.
SumOfUs is already fighting back -- we helped Vermont raise almost a quarter of a million dollars to defend themselves against Monsanto’s bullying! But the next strategic step is to pressure and call out members of the Grocery Manufacturers Association, the shadowy body leading the lawsuit.
Add your voice now. Tell Starbucks and Green Mountain Coffee to stop supporting the lawsuit against Vermont.
Thanks for all that you do,
Kaytee, Paul, Katherine, Angus, and the team at SumOfUs

Stop the New England tar sands safety cover-up from the Natural Resources Defense Council 17APR12

TAR SANDS OIL......the name alone evokes visions of destruction and massive pollution impossible to clean up if there is a spill. The production releases massive amounts of greenhouse gases, the main cause of global warming. The earth itself is poisoned at the source of tar sands oil production, land, air and water turned into a toxic wasteland not fit for man, flora or fauna. It is a waste of land and water and resources that would be better spent on the development of alternative renewable energy and fuel efficient appliances and vehicles. And now a Canadian company, enbridge, wants to expose not only millions of Canadians but millions of Americans to the vile toxic stew of tar sands oil by building a pipeline (line 9)across Ontario and Quebec as well as Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine to the Atlantic Coast so it can be exported. Not only will numerous waterways be put at risk but super tankers will present a risk of spills in the fisheries off the New England Coast. The NRDC is asking people to sign letters to the Canadian National Energy Board for them to order a review of this proposal. Click the link to sign on in opposition for your letter to be presented to the agency this Thursday, 19 APR 12.

A Canadian pipeline company may be planning to funnel toxic tar sands oil through New England -- and trying to get out of telling the public what will happen to the drinking water when there is a spill.

We can force the company to come clean about the threat of a tar sands spill by convincing the Canadian National Energy Board to order a comprehensive environmental review. To show public demand for the review, NRDC is planning to deliver 10,000 letters on this Thursday. Add your name to our letter demanding a full review of the safety risks, and we’ll send it straight to the energy board.

This enormous pipeline would transport tar sands oil from Canada through New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine -- where the oil would leave U.S. shores on super tankers.

A tar sands pipeline through New England would endanger a number of drinking water sources, rivers and wild lands. And while this company is trying to avoid giving a full picture of the risks, we already know that tar sands pipelines are more susceptible to spills than other pipelines, and that a spill of this type of dirty oil is more devastating to local communities and takes longer to clean up.

The company behind the pipeline is trying to skirt the full environmental review for its dangerous project by breaking it into phases. We can't let this corporation bring toxic tar sands oil into the United States without even revealing the risks to human health and the environment. Tell the Canadian National Energy Board to demand a full environmental review of this dangerous tar sands pipeline.

Tar sands mining and drilling in Canada will eventual destroy an area of boreal forest the size of Florida, while generating over three times the global warming pollution as conventional oil production. Tar sands represent a step backward for the United States at a time when we should be moving forward with clean energy solutions. It's time to hold these dirty energy companies accountable for wreaking havoc on our environment and putting our health at risk.
