THIS is one of the times Americans need to stand united in the defense of our democratic Republic. Please take the time to e mail or call ( I did both ) your representative and senators and demand they do not compromise with the drumpf / trump-vance administration and their republican sycophants in congress and pass legislation for funding DHS only if it includes provisions to
• Stop the rampant racial profiling, the warrantless stops and arrests, the roving patrols, and the detention of toddlers and children
• Enforce actual accountability for abuse by immigration agents – including real limits on use of force and surveillance of protesters and rules that allow victims to hold federal agents who injure them accountable in court
• Mandate agents identify themselves, take off their masks, wear and use body cameras, and ensure that footage is available for investigations and accountability.
DEMOCRACY IS NOT A SPECTATOR SPORT, lack of action to stop the DHS from committing these crimes is complicity in them. This call to action is from the ACLU. My e mails to my representative and senators are at the end of this post.
Your pressure worked. Late last week, Congress blocked a bill that would've poured more money into ICE and Border Patrol without any strings attached. This is a direct result of people across the nation demanding that our Senators vote no. ACLU supporters like you sent almost 300,000 messages to Congress demanding an end to ICE and Border Patrol's attacks on our community and successfully flipped the votes needed to stop this bill in its tracks. Congress is listening – but the work's not over. ICE and Border Patrol continue to ask for blank checks to carry out abusive operations, and the Senate is working now to draft a new funding bill.
The Trump administration's mass deportation agenda is causing violence and chaos. Federal agents have detained toddlers and children. They've shot and killed people in our streets. And they have the audacity to keep asking Congress for more and more money. This victory in Congress is a major step towards ending the chaos and violence. But we can't stop now. We're using this momentum to demand concrete reforms, including:
We must stop ICE and Border Patrol's attacks on our communities – and this recent win proves that public opinion is with us. Congress must continue listening to constituents across the country. Join us in urging your representatives to rein in ICE and Border Patrol's abuse. Together, we can get these violent, lawless operations out of our communities for good. In solidarity, Kate Voigt MY E MAILS TO REP SUBRAMANYAM D-VA 10TH, SEN WARNER D-VA AND SEN KAINE D-VA No more ICE raids: No more money for ICE Reckless ICE and Border Patrol operations in Minneapolis and across the country are hurting children, families, and our communities – and now have even shot and killed people in the streets, including Alex Jeffrey Pretti and Renee Nicole Good. Congress must act now to rein in these agents and oppose any bill that would add to its already massive budget without serious reforms. For months, ICE and other federal agents have escalated their operations in neighborhoods across the country, resulting in increasingly disturbing scenes and illegal conduct. Our communities have been left reeling as agents have arrested U.S. citizens, dragged children from their beds in the middle of the night, zip-tied teenagers at school, smashed car windows, and even driven away from an arrest scene with a toddler still in the backseat. ICE arrested five-year-old Liam Conejos Ramos when he came home from preschool, sending him and his father hundreds of miles away from Minneapolis to a detention site in Texas. They detained a seven-year-old girl and her parents in Portland when she was seeking emergency medical care. Now, these agents have tragically killed several beloved community members in Minneapolis. Enough is enough. Enough with the neo-nazi fascist leadership of DHS and their gestapo tactics. DO NOT give in to the drumpf / trump-vance administration and their criminally complicit republican sycophants in congress. If you do not stop DHS' crimes against the residents of America then you will be complicit in these crimes too. Giving in and compromising with the drumpf / trump administration and gop / greed over people-republican party just to keep the government open is not acceptable this time. Let them shut the government down and make sure the American people know they are responsible because you are defending our democratic Republic. As a member of Congress, you have a responsibility to hold ICE accountable for these abuses and demand answers – for the safety of every person that you represent. And now you have a chance to do it. Specifically, I'm urging you to block any DHS funding bill unless it includes provisions to: • Stop the rampant racial profiling, the warrantless stops and arrests, the roving patrols, and the detention of toddlers and children • Enforce actual accountability for abuse by immigration agents – including real limits on use of force and surveillance of protesters and rules that allow victims to hold federal agents who injure them accountable in court • Mandate agents identify themselves, take off their masks, wear and use body cameras, and ensure that footage is available for investigations and accountability Not one dollar more should go to ICE or DHS until these accountability measures are implemented. We cannot sit idly by as our neighbors are killed, injured, and terrorized. None of us wants to live in a police state where paramilitary forces demand to see our papers, menace our kids, or assault us. I hope you'll act immediately to stop ICE's escalation and protect us all. |
