In 1997, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration recorded from deep in the ocean one of the loudest sounds ever detected. No known animal could make it and no man-made source was ever found. "The Bloop" was directed by Cara Cusumano. It is part of The Atlantic Selects, an online showcase of short films from independent creators, curated by The Atlantic.
