Karen Pence was furious Wednesday night that millions of women couldn't take their eyes off her husband's fly. 8OKT20
THE FLY! Not the movie fly, the debate fly that so much has been made of. When I saw it I automatically thought 'well, flies are attracted to shit so.... Here are some other takes on the fly.....
5 BIBLE VERSES ABOUT FLIES
Last night’s vice presidential debate left viewers with many questions: Would Mike Pence aid in a peaceful transfer of power should Donald Trump lose the election? Why do Kamala Harris and Joe Biden like fracking so much? Why was Susan Page denied a mute button? And why was that fly so drawn to Pence, plexiglass be damned? Perhaps it was the vice president’s hairspray, or his chilling stillness, or his pinkish eye. We may never know for sure. But in my search for answers, I turned to the Bible:
Exodus 8:21-23
For if you will not let my people go, I will send swarms of flies on you, your officials, and your people, and into your houses; and the houses of the Egyptians shall be filled with swarms of flies; so also the land where they live. But on that day I will set apart the land of Goshen, where my people live, so that no swarms of flies shall be there, that you may know that I the Lord am in this land. Thus I will make a distinction between my people and your people. This sign shall appear tomorrow.
Psalm 105:30-31
Their land teemed with frogs, even in the chambers of their kings. He spoke, and there came swarms of flies, and gnats throughout their country.
Ecclesiastes 10:1
As dead flies cause even a bottle of perfume to stink, so a little foolishness spoils great wisdom and honor.
Matthew 23:23-24
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint, dill, and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith. It is these you ought to have practiced without neglecting the others. You blind guides! You strain out a gnat but swallow a camel! “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and of the plate, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence.”
Exodus 8:18
The magicians tried to produce gnats by their secret arts, but they could not. There were gnats on both humans and animals.

Lincoln Project's Schmidt: Fly on Pence's head 'historically a mark of the devil'
Steve Schmidt, a co-founder of the anti-Trump Lincoln Project, declared that a fly that landed on Vice President Pence during Wednesday night's debate "is always seen as a mark of the devil," drawing mockery on social media.
"I don't think it's ever a good sign when a fly lands on your head for two minutes," the MSNBC contributor, who managed the late Sen. John McCain's (R-Ariz.) 2008 presidential run, said during post-debate coverage on the network early Thursday.
"That's a sign all through history of sin, and historically, biblically, maybe you wouldn't normally say this — it’s only safe to say this after midnight ... but a fly, he who commands the fly is always seen historically as a mark of the devil," Schmidt added.
Host Ari Melber chuckled at the comment before asking Schmidt to confirm that he was joking and noting that the fly could have landed on anyone.
"But it didn’t. It landed on Mike Pence. And it says something, maybe something karmic about the status of the campaign as it implodes," Schmidt said, appearing to be serious.
"On the fact check, what Steve Schmidt has said about the [polling] numbers is true. What he said about the ultimate moral reckoning of whether the fly connotes evil or devil or Nosferatu is above my pay grade. But I can’t confirm it," Melber said in response.
Schmidt's perspective quickly sparked reaction on social media.
The Biden campaign seized on the viral moment, raising funds by selling fly swatters.
The cost of the swatters, which the campaign said swat away "flies and lies," was $10. They were listed as sold out on the campaign's website as of Thursday morning.

Chicken, With a Side of Respiratory Distress & I'D LIKE MY CHICKEN WITHOUT SHIT, AND HOLD THE BACTERIA WHILE YOU'RE AT IT! USDA takes its bad idea of speeding up chicken inspection lines and makes it worse 30APR14&5DEZ13&17FEB14
THIS is gross. Not only is it wrong for these workers to be exposed to these chemicals their entire shift, it is wrong for the USDA to be an advocate for the American poultry industry and so put the American public at risk by promoting the industries desire for faster chicken processing lines with fewer government inspectors and a greater reliance on chemical spray washes. If the USDA gets their way the chicken we buy will include sides of shit, guts and bacteria. What to do? Check out these articles from +Mother Jones and +Daily Kos and e mail your Representative and Senators and DEMAND they stop the USDA from implementing these "filthy poultry" rules.....
Meanwhile, new information on the already-harsh conditions that prevail on the factory-slaughterhouse floor has emerged over the past month. On the chemical-spray front, the above video, from Atlanta's WSB-TV News, shows that some USDA inspectors in the southeast are complaining publicly that the antimicrobial sprays are causing them, as well as line workers, serious respiratory troubles. The Atlanta report builds on an excellent 2013 story by the Washington Post's Kimberly Kindy, who conducted interviews with more than two dozen USDA inspectors and poultry industry employees, and found a "range of ailments they attributed to chemical exposure, including asthma and other severe respiratory problems, burns, rashes, irritated eyes, and sinus ulcers and other sinus problems."
Stunningly, the USDA trotted that report out in defense of its speedup plan. The report, requested by the USDA itself, did find that carpal tunnel rates at the South Carolina plant did not rise 10 months after its line speed increased from 140 birds per minute to 170 birds per minute. In a triumphant March 26 blog post, Al Almanza, administrator of the department's USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service, hailed that result, declaring that NIOSH researchers had shown that "the increase in evisceration line speeds was not a significant factor in worker safety"—a statement he saw fit to underline for emphasis.
In a scathing April 7 retort, NIOSH director John Howard claimed that his agency's report drew "no such conclusion." He called the finding of carpal tunnel syndrome at a steady rate of 42 percent "alarming," adding that the 10 months between the researchers' two visits was "not sufficient to result in a change in health status."
Moreover, the plant didn't just speed up its line, it turns out. It combined two lines, each operating at 140 birds per minute, into a single one operating at 170 birds per minute—and kept all of the employees working on the combined line. That meant that "the number of chickens handled by most workers and the total production remained the same at the time of our follow-up visit," the report clearly states. Howard noted that because of the unusual arrangement, "no conclusion can be drawn" from the report about "the effect of line speed changes on worker health." This assessment was made clear in the report itself, which stated that "this plant may not be representative of all plants that may increase their evisceration line speed."
Yet the USDA is sticking by its creative reading of the NIOSH report. In an email to me, a USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service public affairs specialist reiterated that "increased line speed at this plant did not result in an increase in injuries" at the plant. The specialist added that the report "illustrates that a plant can adjust its processing so that increased line speeds do not necessarily lead to more birds being processed per worker, a fact FSIS has continued to point out." Fair enough. But FSIS has also repeatedly claimed that the sped-up system would benefit poultry processing companies to the tune of "at least" $256 million annually in reduced costs. It's hard to imagine where that cool quarter-billion in annual savings would come from, if not from each worker processing more birds per minute.
Finally, things have gotten so dire on the poultry line that three organizations—Nebraska Appleseed, the Midwest Coalition for Human Rights, and the Southern Poverty Law Center—appealed to the the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (part of the Organization of American States) for a hearing on the "Human Rights Situation of Workers in the Meatpacking and Poultry Industry in the United States," which was held on March 25. Drawing on SPLC's harrowing 2013 report compiling the complaints of poultry workers called "Unsafe at These Speeds," SPLC attorney Tom Fritzsche delivered blunt testimony (video here), calling on the USDA to abandon its new plan and instead slow down the kill lines. This bit from Fritzsche's testimony caught my attention: "The work speed is so unrelenting that it has forced workers to urinate and defecate in their clothing while working on the line because employers deny reasonable bathroom use, violating workers' rights to dignity."

Yes please, says the USDA.THE below from Daily Kos......do you want chicken factories inspected by the poultry companies who own them—while feces-filled birds, doused with chemicals, zoom through the assembly line at three per second? That could be the future, if we don’t act now.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture is considering a rule change that would privatize poultry inspection—allowing companies to inspect chicken and turkey carcasses themselves.
What happens if birds are contaminated with feces? The rule allows companies to douse them with more chemicals, while jacking up assembly line speeds to three birds per second.USDA takes its bad idea of speeding up chicken inspection lines and makes it worse
by VL Baker
The Obama administration Department of Agriculture has been pushing its proposal to "modernize" chicken processing inspection to include speeding up inspection lines and using fewer inspectors. They use the old excuse of saying it will save money and make the process more efficient.
attribution: USDA.gov
The USDA claims that it would save taxpayers $30 million per year by laying off inspectors, and save the poultry industry "at least" $256 million annually. The chicken industry—dominated by Tyson, Pilgrim's Pride (now mostly owned by JBS), Purdue, and Sanderson—strongly supports the proposal.
Of course, food safety and labor advocates are up in arms arguing that the combination of more speed and fewer inspectors would lead to dangerous conditions for both consumers and line workers. The faster inspection lines would make the various commonly found pathogens of salmonella and campylobacter, which are often antibiotic-resistant, more prevalent. But, don't worry, the USDA has a solution for that. They plan to unleash a barrage of anti-microbial sprays onto chicken carcasses as they zip down the line. Doesn't that make you feel better? The USDA is reviewing whether the bacteria-killing chemicals are actually masking salmonella rather than killing it.
However that turns out, looks like the USDA will go ahead with its "modernization" plans. What does the meat industry have that makes the USDA kowtow to their every wish? Why, of course, it has politicians in its pockets!Originally posted to beach babe in fl on Thu Dec 05, 2013 at 02:22 PM PST.
