I have always been opposed to the death penalty. I feel executing someone may be sending them to Hell because they may not have made things right with God for their soul. Sentencing someone to life in prison without the chance of parole for committing a heinous crime at least gives them the time to get right with God before they die if they so choose. Christianity teaches that we need to forgive just as we believe God grants forgiveness for our sins when we ask for it. PLEASE CLICK THE LINK TO SIGN THE PETITION ASKING PRESIDENT BIDEN TO COMMUTE EVERY PRISONER ON DEATH ROW. This is not calling for him to release death row prisoners, it is calling on him to change their sentence from death to life in prison. This from the ACLU.....
President Biden remains the president of this country until January 20 – and his action is needed now more than ever. He must do everything possible before he leaves office to preserve our democracy and mitigate the harm that Trump's policies will create – and that starts with commuting the sentences of everyone on federal death row. The death penalty system perpetuates injustice – Black, Brown, and economically disadvantaged people make up a disproportionate number of people on death row due to racial bias and sentencing errors. In addition, the death penalty fails to deter crime, wasting resources without making our communities safer, and is fundamentally inhumane. Donald Trump executed more people in his first term as president than the past 10 administrations combined. And he's promised to expand the use of the federal death penalty in his second term. These horrific executions are a moral stain on our nation. President Biden can – and must – commute every federal death sentence before he leaves the Oval Office. Tell President Biden: Commute the row.
Joe Biden campaigned on addressing the death penalty. But with less than 70 days left, Biden's administration has yet to act to end this inhumane and outdated process. We are counting on President Biden to do the right thing in the time he has left in office. His actions over the next two months will determine how much power President-elect Donald Trump has over our civil rights and civil liberties when he takes office – so action in this moment cannot wait. This is President Biden's chance to prevent irreversible miscarriages of justice and cement a legacy of compassion and racial justice. He must follow through on his campaign promises and commute the row today. We cannot wait any longer for action. Thanks for joining our fight, The ACLU Team | ||||
