Craig, Three weeks ago, I wrote you to vent my anger about the way many in the media are covering this critical presidential campaign. I kept seeing the lurking ghost of 2016: lousy media coverage that normalizes Donald Trump and treats him as a regular candidate. Today, I’m still steamed. Just look at the subsequent debate between Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris, where Trump once again refused to acknowledge he lost the last election and said he had no regrets about January 6. He went on to hurl dozens of lies at Harris. The ABC News moderators fact-checked about four. That was a good start, but it showed that fierce and forceful journalism is needed to combat Trump’s unrelenting campaign of propaganda and disinformation—which still has a good chance of returning him to the White House. One thing that has changed, though, is that THE DEADLINE HAS FINALLY COME for the $50,000 digital matching gift you’ve been hearing about. Jared Kushner Is Puzzled That CNN Hasn't Fired All Its Anti-Trump Commentators 4APR17

KAPO jared kushner is another player in the drumpf/trump-pence administration's desire to impose authoritarianism on the American people, to silence criticism of their policies and actions, to destroy our rights protected by the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. Jared Kushner Is Puzzled That CNN Hasn't Fired All Its Anti-Trump Commentators

Jonathan Mahler has a piece in the New York Times Magazine today about the love-hate relationship between Jeff Zucker, the president of CNN, and Donald Trump, the president of the United States. It's mainly about how both men thrive on politics as gossip, entertainment, and conflict, but it includes one interesting tidbit at the very end. It's about a breakfast meeting Zucker had last December with Ivanka Trump's husband, Jared Kushner, who has become an increasingly important Trump advisor in the White House:

Kushner wanted to know why CNN still hadn’t fired anti-Trump commentators like [Van] Jones and Ana Navarro, who said on CNN in October that every Republican would have to answer the question of what they did the day they saw a tape of “this man boasting about grabbing a woman’s pussy.”...Zucker tried to explain that even though Trump won, the network still needed what he described as “a diversity of opinion.”

I'm not sure if I'm supposed to take this literally or seriously. Did Kushner really think that this was how a news organization was supposed to work? That once Trump won, all the folks who didn't like Trump would be fired in some kind of Stalinesque purge?

THE state of a democracy is greatly influenced by the state of it's mass media. A strong, healthy democracy has a strong and vibrant, independent media that is not afraid to challenge the powers that be. If the koch brothers are able to buy the mass media the Tribune Company is selling the state of our democracy will be at risk to greater manipulation by and control of the koch brothers, and they are no friends of democracy. Please sign the petition from Daily KOS and Credo Action asking the board of directors of the Tribune Company to refuse any and all offers from the koch brothers to buy the mass media organizations that are for for sale. There is much at risk for our nation.....
30 MAY 13 is date of the next meeting of the board of directors of The Tribune Company, the corporation from which the Koch brothers are looking to purchase newspapers.

Please join with Daily Kos and CREDO in petitioning the board of directors of the Tribune Company not to sell any Tribune media properties to Charles and David Koch.

As the board meets, they need to hear our message loud and clear: the Koch brothers have an agenda to create misinformation that has no place in the news business.

The board needs to know that any media outlet will lose a huge portion of its audience if it is sold to the Koch brothers, and that we’ve got hundreds of thousands of petitioners to prove it.
