The persecution of Captain Watson has gone on long enough, and We The People have the right and responsibility to tell our government to grant him safe haven / sanctuary. Please sign the petitions. And there are others actions and updates in this newsletter, there is much to be done because Sea Shepherd is such an affective defender of our oceans and all who live in them.

Sea Shepherd has created two very important petitions, one of which could provide safe haven for Captain Watson and the other asks the United States to take strong action to stop the Japanese from killing whales in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary. We only have until February 28th to reach the required number of signatures. You don't have to be a US citizen to sign the petitions, but you do need to create a user account on their website. Help us! Secret Rooftops Hiding Shameful Atrocities Can you guess what those light and dark grey things on the roof of the building pictured below are? Each speck represents a shark's fin! In fact, you are looking at more than 10,000 shark fins drying on a roof in Hong Kong during the month of January! Gary Stokes, Sea Shepherd Hong Kong Coordinator, broke the story, garnering worldwide news coverage. Sharks need protection now, and they need CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species) to do the right thing and base their protection status on scientific facts rather than financial greed. Only when the killing and trade of this apex predator, which is so vital to the health of the oceans, become officially illegal will we see a stop to this atrocity. Learn more! While the actions of the thugs of Taiji, Japan don't represent all Japanese the tolerance of their actions by the citizens and government of Japan, their economic support of the slaughter of whales and dolphins takes away from the sympathy many feel for them after the earthquake of two months ago. The Taiji Town officials would have us believe that they are being magnanimous by foregoing their spring whale hunt in order to send their two coastal whaling vessels to help out their brethren in the north.  What a load of crap.
While it may be true that their boats are up north, we are hearing reports that some sort of whale was killed in Taiji Town yesterday and today the molesters drove a pod of (possible) pilot whales into the cove.  After a big show in late February of removing the banger poles and taking down the veil of tarps, the poles and tarps are back.  When I showed up at the cove this afternoon the molesters went into a frenzied panic and began setting up lights and adding extra nets around the corralled cetaceans.
I estimate there are at least 50 and likely many more in the nets.  All the preparations are in place for an early morning slaughter and a baby has already died.  Perhaps it died from exhaustion or got tangled in the net enclosure.
These so called men are sick individuals.  Has there not been enough death and destruction in these islands over the past few weeks?  Let’s not forget about all of the highly radioactive water that is continuing to be pumped into the ocean.  Not only are whales and dolphins contaminated with mercury, but now there is the threat of radiation too.
The officials claim they have a “season” on pilot whales that goes through the end of May.  How convenient is that?
Today was a holiday in Japan.  The weather in Taiji was gorgeous.  There were overflow crowds at the whale museum and children played in the gravel at water’s edge in the cove.  Meanwhile, an entire family unit of wild and grand creatures with complex social behaviors and intelligence far beyond that of humans was being held captive and awaiting death just yards away.  There is something seriously wrong with this picture.

The Blood Just Keeps Flowing in the Cove & IMATA Must Black List Taiji Dolphin Killers from SEA SHEPHERD 11&12NOV10

THE BLOOD KEEPS FLOWING IN THE COVE WITH DOLPHINS BEING SLAUGHTERED BY THE THUGS OF TAIJI, JAPAN. NOW THE JAPANESE AUTHORITIES ARE INVOLVED, SECURING THE COVE FOR THE "FISHERMEN" AND WITH THIS ACTION BECOME AS GUILTY AS THOSE DOING THE KILLING. E MAIL THE JAPANESE PRIME MINSTER, THE MINISTER OF FISHERIES AND THE JAPANESE EMBASSY USING THE CONTACT INFORMATION BELOW.
The Thugs of Taiji tried to drive two pods of dolphins into the Cove this morning. One pod escaped another group of twelve has been driven into the Cove and they are getting ready to slaughter them. The Cove Guardians are documenting the atrocity on site now despite heavy security.

IMATA Must Black List Taiji Dolphin Killers

The International Marine Animal Trainers Association (IMATA) has posted to their wall that they oppose the drive fisheries. Yet, Keisuke Futura of the Suma Aquatic Park is attending the IMATA conference in Boston on December 5th. The Suma Aquatic Park received dolphins direct from Taiji Harbor on October 3rd of this year.
This statement by IMATA has no credibility unless they blacklist all aquarium staff and trainers from facilities that have bought or who intend to buy dolphins from the Taiji Death Drive.
If Keisuke Futara is allowed to attend the IMATA conference on December 5it it will be a clear sign that IMATA supports the slaughter of dolphins at Taiji. Words without action are meaningless.

Dolphin trainers who engage in the torture and slaughter of dolphins are the problem. If they would stop buying dolphins from Taiji and the slaughter will end.
Any member of IMATA that attends this conference along with these despicable trainers from facilities like the Suma Aquatic Park is complicit in the killing.
Activists in Boston need to protest this conference. Activists from around the world need to let IMATA know that a media release does not absolve their guilt. They remain guilty by association with sadistic trainers participating in the horror show at Taiji.

WRITE:  Send a letter, e-mail, and/or fax to the Prime Minister of Japan, the Minister of Fisheries, your local embassy or consulate and other Japanese officials to let them know that this barbaric slaughter is unacceptable.
