IT is amazing and disgusting that google, with all it's profits and it's prominence in the tech and internet worlds, still lowers it's corporate morals to the extent that it traffics in products from endangered species, it still traffics in ivory from elephants. This is the company, the corporate giant whose motto Do No Harm is becoming more of a joke than a definition of their corporate practices, first with their joining alec last week and now this expose of their profiting from trade in endangered species products. Google sells ivory through its site, threatening elephants with extinction.

Tell Google to adhere to its own policies and stop trafficking in ivory.

The ivory trade is slaughtering elephants by the hundreds in horrific massacres that rip apart herds and leave orphaned calves to starve. But despite an official policy against selling products from endangered animals, Google still traffics ivory -- taking money from ivory sellers to promote their products. Google offers thousands of ivory items on its shopping sites around the world. Its lax enforcement of its own policies allows unscrupulous sellers to find easy markets for illegal ivory.Google needs to stop this horrific practice today.

Call on Google to stop trafficking in ivory immediately.

Elephants are some of the most intelligent and social animals on the planet. They develop lifelong friendships, spend years raising their young, mourn their dead and weep at rejection. They’re also at enormous risk: the population of African forest elephants has plummeted 62% in the past decade. We must stop the ivory trade if we wish to save this species.

Studies show that a robust legal trade swells overall demand for ivory, resulting in poaching, more deaths, and increased risk of extinction. Google claims that it “takes down ads as soon as they are detected”, but the ivory trade has been a chronic issue on the website. The same ads appear day after day after day. Google is simply not taking its own role in the ivory trade seriously.

Google is only paying lip service to the idea of stamping it out, because Google doesn’t want the world to know that it has blood on its hands. If we, as its customers, can raise enough of an outcry, Google will dedicate itself to eradicating the ivory trade on its own site.

Tell Google to stop with the excuses, and stop selling ivory.

After years of declining elephant populations, the global ban on new ivory in 1989 caused elephant populations to surge back. But the short reprieve has ended, and in many countries elephant populations are once more dropping drastically. We need to end trade in all ivory, including older products, in order to ensure elephants remain here for our grandchildren.

THANKSGIVING

I have been thinking a lot about Thanksgiving next week, and all that I have to be thankful for. For some reason a video I saw a few years ago about the reunion after 20+ years of two elephants, Jenny and Shirley, came to mind...such a beautiful story of family, love and devotion. It is this kind of love I get from my family, total love, and for this I am so thankful. Enjoy this video and go to The Elephant Sanctuary for more on Jenny and Shirley, and give thanks every day for your family, and revel in their love. Celebrate, hug, kiss, hold hands, touch, laugh and totally loose yourself in your family and give thanks to God for them....

Shirley & Jenny's Reunion

Is it really YOU? Shirley and Jenny together again!

Jenny and Shirley were both at the same circus when Jenny was a calf and Shirley was in her twenty's. They lived one winter together then were separated twenty-two years ago. It is very rare for elephants to display this kind of emotion in captivity, and it's probably the first time such a thing has been documented on film.
Carol Buckley, Sanctuary Director, describes their reunion.

"Jenny came into the barn for the first time since Shirley's arrival at around 7:00 p.m. There was an immediate urgency in Jenny's behavior. She wanted to get close to Shirley who was divided by two stalls. Once Shirley was allowed into the adjacent stall the interaction between her and Jenny became quite intense. Jenny wanted to get into the stall with Shirley desperately.She became agitated, banging on the gate and trying to climb through and over.
After several minutes of touching and exploring each other, Shirley started to ROAR and I mean ROAR—Jenny joined in immediately. The interaction was dramatic, to say the least, with both elephants trying to climb in with each other and frantically touching each other through the bars. I have never experienced anything even close to this depth of emotion".

The story from Carol continues:

"We opened the gate and let them in together....they are as one bonded physically together. One moves, and the other shows in unison. It is a miracle and joy to behold. All day yesterday (July 7) they moved side by side and when Jenny lay down, Shirley straddled her in the most obvious protective manner and shaded her body from the sun and harm. This relationship is intense and resembles that of mother and daughter. We are so blessed.
Last night, July 7th, they stayed out together—a first for Jenny. It was beautiful. Scott and I brought out their PM and AM groceries and they are as content as two peas in a pod!!! The joy in this sacred valley is almost overwhelming."
