Dear Craig,
|
Right now, one in 10 Americans are unemployed. One of them is Sharron, a USAction/TrueMajority member who works closely with our local affiliate Citizen Action of New York.
And for Sharron and two million other Americans time is running out. If Congress fails to act in the next seven days, they'll lose their last paycheck. You can guess how Sharron is feeling:
"It's a daily struggle at this point not to be paralyzed by despair. I am 46, college-educated with excellent references and great skills. I've been told many times I have a great resume. I don't want to be on unemployment. I want a job, but don't even get any interviews."
If Sharron's story is familiar, or breaks your heart, we need your help. Next week we're bringing dozens of unemployed workers like Sharron to D.C. to talk to Congress in-person. Will you stand with us? Just click here to sign our petition:

While Sharron and millions of other working Americans are struggling, the average CEO took home $1.67 million in bonuses. These people don't need another tax break, but that's just what some members of Congress want to give them.
More money for CEOs won't help people like Sharron get a job. But unemployment benefits keep struggling families afloat allowing them to buy a Thanksgiving turkey and pay the rent.
That's why last week TrueMajority/USAction members shut down Congress' switchboard with our calls to support unemployment insurance for workers, not tax breaks for millionaires. But Congress isn't listening yet, so we're ramping up.
Congress isn't supposed to just do favors for the rich. Sign here to remind them who they should be fighting for.
Thanks,
Drew Hudson

PS - your calls last week got noticed. Keep up the pressure by signing the petition Congress.
