LEONARD PELTIER MOVED BY BOP AGAIN 14SEP11

THE imprisonment of Leonard Peltier, his treatment by the U.S. Bureau of Prisons, reminds me of the treatment of political prisoners abroad the U.S. government regularly condemns as inhumane and as violations of the prisoners human rights. This hypocrisy doesn't go unnoticed by the international human rights community, bringing much needed attention  to the abuses of human rights of prisoners by the U.S. government as well as decreasing American influence around the world on issues concerning human rights. If you can send a note to Leonard Peltier at the address below, and if possible call or write the acting director of the U.S. BOP asking Leonard be moved to the medium security prison in Oxford, Wisconsin. According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons, Leonard Peltier has been moved from Oklahoma City to the U.S. Penitentiary at Coleman, Florida.

The United States Penitentiary I in Coleman is a high security facility located in central Florida approximately 50 miles northwest of Orlando, 60 miles northeast of Tampa, and 35 miles south of Ocala.

This is nearly 2,000 miles from Leonard's Nation, the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians, in North Dakota!  Tell the Federal Bureau of Prisons that the only acceptable transfer is one to a medium security facility in close proximity to (within a 500-mile radius of) his family and Nation.  Ideally, Leonard should be moved to the medium security facility at Oxford, WI.

The Proof: BOP Railroads Leonard Peltier 14JUL11

THE official BOP reports on the "offenses" allegedly committed by Leonard Peltier resulting in his transfer to the "hole" in Lewisburg Prison. This punishment is extreme, and not justified considering his alleged "offenses", his age, his prison record and his health. Please participate in the call to action and e mail the BOP and demand Leonard Peltier be returned to the general population of the prison.

On June 27, the 66-year-old Leonard Peltier was thrown in "The Hole" at USP-Lewisburg where he purportedly will stay for the next six months. According to what is currently known, Leonard's cell was searched that day. A guard allegedly was shocked by a wire(s) in the cell, placed there a long while ago by one of Leonard's former cellmates. The guard claimed "assault" (apparently he didn't know better than to touch an electrical wire). Leonard wasn't present during the search, having already been removed to "The Hole".

Please note that the prison failed to detect the money sent to Leonard by a supporter and now blames Leonard for being in possession of the 20£ note. Also please note the placement of the wires in the cell as described by the guard. Leonard does not sleep on the top bunk and while the guard indicates that Leonard currently does not have a cellmate, it is also true that Leonard has had a cellmate in that particular cell from time to time.

Liberate Leonard Peltier

Ironically, on this day in 1789, Parisians liberated an infamous French prison known as the Bastille. The fortress-prison often held people jailed on the basis of arbitrary royal indictments and had been known for holding political prisoners whose writings had displeased the royal government. Sound familiar?

Urgent: Take Action for Leonard Peltier to receive the medical treatment he needs from LEONARD PELTIER DEFENSE OFFENSE COMMITTEE 10JAN11

THE delay in allowing Leonard Peltier to have a biopsy to determine if he has prostate cancer is morally wrong and very hypocritical. Denial of medical care for political prisoners and prisoners of conscience in other countries is often condemned and publicized by the U.S. government, yet here is the government, denying medical treatment to a political prisoner. Please take the time to e mail Pres. Obama and the BOP at the addresses below and respectfully ask that Leonard Peltier be provided the medical treatment he needs.

Demand Leonard's Immediate Transfer to the Mayo Clinic!

The Leonard Peltier Defense Offense Committee urgently calls upon all supporters to consistently and constantly contact USP Lewisburg to demand Leonard Peltier be immediately transferred to the Mayo Clinic for a full medical evaluation and appropriate treatment. As many of you know, Leonard has exhibited symptoms of prostate cancer for over a year. After months of pressure by attorneys, Leonard underwent blood tests in June of 2010. Those results were not made available until early November 2010. A biopsy was indicated which was ordered by a physician and approved by the prison. However, the biopsy has not been performed. The delay in testing, diagnosis, and treatment is unacceptable and constitutes medical neglect.

Please, in contacting USP Lewisburg, refrain from speaking out of anger. Your outrage, disgust and frustration can and should be expressed in a respectful yet forceful manner.

To be clear, we still need to keep the pressure on the White House, so keep making those calls and writing those letters to President Obama.
