THE imprisonment of Leonard Peltier, his treatment by the U.S. Bureau of Prisons, reminds me of the treatment of political prisoners abroad the U.S. government regularly condemns as inhumane and as violations of the prisoners human rights. This hypocrisy doesn't go unnoticed by the international human rights community, bringing much needed attention to the abuses of human rights of prisoners by the U.S. government as well as decreasing American influence around the world on issues concerning human rights. If you can send a note to Leonard Peltier at the address below, and if possible call or write the acting director of the U.S. BOP asking Leonard be moved to the medium security prison in Oxford, Wisconsin. This is nearly 2,000 miles from Leonard's Nation, the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians, in North Dakota! Tell the Federal Bureau of Prisons that the only acceptable transfer is one to a medium security facility in close proximity to (within a 500-mile radius of) his family and Nation. Ideally, Leonard should be moved to the medium security facility at Oxford, WI.
