Bird Visits Bernie Sanders Rally, Sparks Delight On Twitter

At a rally in Portland, Ore., on Friday morning, Bernie Sanders had an unexpected visitor.
And the crowd went wild.
If you haven't seen it yet, here's the video:
Bernie's evident delight, the crowd's roaring applause and the tiny bird's savoir faire were social media gold. The moment prompted a Twitter response that was completely opposed, in content and tone, to, well, the other big political conversation on social media right now.
And nearly a full day after the bird made its appearance,#BirdieSanders is still trending.
I'm down for for president

I'm tired of the top 1% controling 99% of the wealth in this country.

It's quite clear who Mother Nature endorses for president ()

The location of the avian appearance is prompting amusement, too — because of course it was Portland.
IFC's sketch comedy show Portlandia, starring Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisen, famously featured a sketch called "Put a Bird On It" in their first episode.
In a case of life imitating sketch comedy, adding a bird to a political rally brought mesmerized delight — but also, as one reporter noted, could be messy.
It's less cute and magical when it poops on your laptop

Razzle Dazzle 2.0 -- The MarchFourth Bus Project

I have been a backer of a couple of projects on Kickstarter, Razzle Dazzle 2.0 benefiting March Fourth Marching Band is my latest. I saw them in the Spring of 2008 and it is still one of the best shows I have even been to. They don't come to the East Coast often enough, so I envy you guys on the West Coast and in the Rockies where your chances at a March Fourth concert are much better. Check out the first video below for just a taste of what the band is all about and then I do hope you will check out their Kickstarter fundraising page (see below or click the link to go to their fundraiser page) for their much needed new bus and will become a backer if you can.....and will share this with others who might become backers....

About this project

The MarchFourth Bus Project

Your favorite intergalactic marching band, MarchFourth, needs a new space ship! Our beloved bus, Razzle Dazzle, is getting old and she ain't what she used to be. Razzle's not very gas efficient and spews more exhaust than we'd like to admit... and she broke down three times last year! (though amazingly we never missed a gig =) Without a reliable ride, we can't get to your town to rock your face off.
We've got our eye on Razzle 2.0, but it won't come cheap. We need YOUR love and support. We want nothing more than to continue zig-zagging around this beautiful continent, leaving a wake of biodegradable glitter and joy, for years to come. Wouldn't you like that too?
If that's not enough, we are offering some AWESOME incentives to those who back us. Git some. Every supporter over the $10 level will be immortalized on a plaque on our new bus. Thanks in advance and Joy Now! We love you...

Watch the M4 Razzle Dazzle Webisodes

Join us on the road for a tour across the country...
Wanna know more about MarchFourth's experience on the road with Razzle Dazzle? Check out the official M4 YouTube Channel and dig all 35 of the Trail Mix: A Life with Razzle Dazzle (HD) webisodes. From Seattle to New York and everything in between, the Trail Mix playlist chronicles the last 10 months of the band's break neck touring schedule. Vicariously hang out with some of your favorite M4 members in comical behind-the-scenes moments as we dart around the United States and Canada. Kick it all off with a pre-show Razzle break down in Casa Grande, AZ last March. Push play!
We collectively refer to Razzle as our "home away from home," a retreat from the rigors of rocking night after night. Simply put, our bus is what makes us a functional operation. It's plain and simple: there isn't a next gig without a solid vehicle to safely and reliably transport MarchFourth to the show. Every donation - no matter how big or small - goes a long way to keep this band spreading the kind of love that we know is needed out there. We really need your support...
We really do want to deliver on our promise to bring your town the spectacular, one-of-a-kind experience you've come to expect from us. Support the MarchFourth Razzle Dazzle 2.0 campaign today!

United Streetcar Putting Americans to Work, Putting America in Position to Win The Future 12APR11

THIS is way cool, I love streetcars!
When you watch our latest video, "Transporting America: United Streetcar," you'll see the next generation of transportation. You'll see transit investments from the Department of Transportation helping people get where they need to go without breaking the bank. And you'll see a company out-innovating and out-building its foreign competition while creating jobs for American workers.

The streetcars rolling through Portland, Oregon, are helping commuters beat the rising cost of refueling their cars and vans and trucks. And, as rising gas prices take a bigger bite out of family budgets, other communities are looking to ease that bite through similar transportation options.
As commuter Jim Winkle says in the video, "It's made a huge difference."
That's why the Department of Transportation has supported streetcar projects in communities like Portland across America. From Charlotte, North Carolina, and Washington, DC, to Tucson, Arizona, and Dallas, Texas, grants from the Federal Transit Administration are helping jump-start the American streetcar renaissance.
United Streetcar president Chandra Brown agrees: "The Department of Transportation has been a true partner as the streetcar industry has developed. Without their assistance, we could not have made the private investment to make this new industry successful."
That's good news for commuters and their families. It's also good news for American workers because, at United Streetcar, they're manufacturing the first American streetcars in more than 50 years.
And we mean "American." The cars rolling out of United Streetcar have the highest percentage of American parts and labor of any streetcar in the last 50 years. That means United Streetcar's innovation is creating an economic ripple effect, providing business for an all-American supply chain of more than 200 different vendors in 20-plus states across the U.S.
I love the idea of DOT grants helping create American jobs, and I love the idea of helping American families with options to ease the pinch they feel at the pump. But there's also the pride I hear in workers--like welder Steve Goodman and construction foreman Casey Peacock--who know that for the first time in more than 50 years America can build its own streetcars.
And not only build our own streetcars--this company is bold enough to take on its foreign competitors by planning to export the cars they make.
President Obama has challenged Americans to dream big and build big. United Streetcar has risen to that challenge, and they’re doing it all with American parts, labor, and ingenuity. That means less congestion on our roads, more jobs for American workers, and a future we are prepared to win.
Ray LaHood is the Secretary of Transportation.
