VAGINA, VAGINA, VAGINA!!!!! CAN'T SAY IT, DON'T LEGISLATE IT!16JUN12

It is amazing that so many politicians just don't get it. A woman's vagina is her's, not their's. If they insist in legislating what women do with their vaginas while refusing to legislate what men can do with their penises then they should hear about it. Click the links to tell Michigan republicans to keep their laws out of womens vaginas and to allow free speech in the Michigan legislature! From Daily KOS & the ACLU.....
Tell Michigan Republicans that if they don't like it when female lawmakers say "vagina," then they should stop legislating vaginas. Click here to send Michigan Republicans an email.

Earlier this week, during a debate over one of the most restrictive anti-choice bills yet, Michigan state Rep. Lisa Brown read a letter from a voter that concluded with a message for Republican Speaker of the House Jase Bolger:

"Finally Mr. Speaker, I'm flattered that you are all so interested in my vagina, but no means no."

Bolger promptly barred Rep. Brown from speaking on the House floor the next day. Apparently Michigan Republicans think it’s okay to legislate vaginas, but not okay to talk about them.

Click here to tell Jase Bolger that if he doesn't like it when lawmakers say the word "vagina," then he should stop legislating vaginas.

Keep fighting,

Because Freedom Can't Protect Itself

"I'm flattered you're all so interested in my vagina. But no means no."

With those words, Michigan state representative Lisa Brown told the Speaker of the House exactly what she thought of the vicious anti-choice measure he was trying to push through the legislature.

Here's what happened next. She was banned from speaking as the legislation moved forward. So was another female legislator, Rep. Barb Byrum, who reportedly shouted "vasectomy" out of turn.

They were silenced as the House of Representatives passed war on women legislation that could, among other things, shut down clinics that provide safe, legal abortions and end medication abortions throughout the state.

Silencing female legislators is a direct violation of their First Amendment rights and limits their ability to directly serve the people they represent. We can't let it stand.

Tell Michigan Speaker of the House Jase Bolger and Majority Floor Leader Jim Stamas to protect freedom of speech and stop silencing women's voices.

Women deserve a seat at the table especially when legislation impacts our bodies and our health. Clearly we have much work to do if using an anatomically correct word causes such moral panic that it derails us from examining the larger issue: women are still being excluded from conversations about women's health.

We can't legislate on reproductive health if we aren't allowed to talk about our bodies. Stand with the ACLU in declaring: If you can't say it, don't legislate it. Remind Jase Bolger and Jim Stamas to protect all of our First Amendment rights.
Thanks for taking action,

Kary Moss
Executive Director, ACLU of Michigan
P.S. — This isn't the first time House majority leadership has denied women a voice on the issues that impact us the most. During a committee hearing last week, no woman — nearly 90 were present — was allowed to testify against the bills. Only women in support were given the time to speak out. We must send a message loud and clear: stop silencing women's voices.

Knit Your Congressman a Vagina (Dear Men in Congress: If we knit you a uterus, will you stay out of ours?) 20MAR12

I HAVE TO LEARN HOW TO KNIT!!!!! This is fantastic and I hope all you knitters out there will take part. See the Government Free VJJ site following the Mother Jones article, these ladies are great! Click the link for patterns.
Hey, a womb is just as good.
America's elected leaders, particularly those of the Republican male variety, have not done too well by women lately. In Congress, GOP legislators have sought to exempt religious orgs from having to offer health insurance that covers contraceptives. Mitt Romney replied lamely when confronted with Rush Limbaugh's Slutgate, and GOP lawmakers didn't exactly, ahem, rush to challenge their kingmaker. In Arizona and Kansas, Republican state legislators pushed bills allowing a doctor to lie about the health status of your fetus for fear you might opt to get an abortion. And should you make that harrowing choice, Virginia Republicans, following in the footsteps of their colleagues in a number of other states, passed a law requiring that you have an ultrasound first. They wanted it to be the kind where the doctor sticks a paddle into your vagina, but public outcry forced them to scale it back to the abdominal kind. Now, for good measure, GOP legislators are blocking the Violence Against Women Act.
We've already told you about these (pretty awesome) new laws proposed by Democratic legislators simply to mock their rivals' misogyny.
But the women behind Government Free VJJ have a different approach:
"Follow these simple steps," the website beckons...
1. Knit or crochet a vagina or uterus.
2. Print a message to enclose.
3. Mail it to your male Senator or Congressional Representative [links provided]
4. We're in the process of arranging hand delivery to congressional offices in Washington, until then, go ahead and mail yours in!
5. Record your items in this spreadsheet so we can track which representatives still need to receive a "gift"!
6. Don't forget to thank your representative if he respects women and supports our rights.
The crochet patterns available so far include uterus and "happy uterus." For knitters, there's a vulva, a womb (pictured), felt cervixes, and (hey, why not?)—a "snatchel."

Hey Ladies, Want a Raise? Wash Your Vagina -- Women's Day Magazine's Ulta-Sexist Ad 26AUG10

OH MY GOSH!!!!! This is not a spoof, it is an actual ad in Women's Day Magazine! This ranks (no pun intended) right up there with the fatwa from the freaky Saudi imam telling women to breastfeed their adult male associates (see the Nurse Tacky post on this blog for that one).
So, ladies, you say you want a raise? How should you go about getting it?
First, you have to figure out how to compete with the guy in the next cubicle. After all, he went to a school almost as good as yours. His grades were nearly as good as yours, too. He works hard. In fact, most mornings, he's the second person in the office. You know this, because you're always first. He is young, ruggedly good looking, and he washes his balls with a manly but fresh sandalwood soap.
What to do?
Fortunately, the good folks at Women's Day and Summer's Eve have a few words of advice for you.

(No, this is not from the Onion. It is really from a full page ad in Women's Day)
What is the very first thing you should consider if you want a raise? What is the most important thing of all?

Yup, wash that vagina, and wash it good. Remember the sandalwood-scented balls. You don't want any, ahem, untoward odors to interfere with your chances, do you? What's that you say? You don't have an odor problem? You're clean, you bathe regularly, and you don't really need advice to use a product that "cleanses away odor-causing bacteria from the external vaginal area?" What are you, a barbarian? This is a raise you're talking about.
That was #1 on the "how to get a raise" list. What was last, least important? Well, after the "wash your vagina" advice, it must be something truly inconsequential, perhaps related to toenail hygeine with closed-toe shoes, right? Let's look:

Accomplishments? Who cares? You're a woman. Nobody wants to know about your accomplishments. No, what really matters is a great fresh cut flower smell from you-know-where.
Oh, and don't forget the penultimate piece of advice:

Yeah, don't let it get personal. Let the boss sniff your panties, just don't let it get personal.
On the other hand, if you think this is one of the most outrageous and insulting advertisements you've ever seen, feel free to tell the people at Woman's Day. You can also call them at (212) 767-6000.
And don't forget the Summer's Eve people. Their toll-free number is 866-787-6383, and the website is HERE.
