Paul Ryan fires House chaplain, reportedly for being way too Christian & House chaplain forced out by Ryan 26APR18

THE main question I have is where is the outrage, the accusations against the drumpf/trump-pence administration and the republican party of waging war on Christianity, especially from the "religious" right wing? paul ryan's hypocritical action in firing House Chaplain Patrick Conroy is a perfect example of a Christian being persecuted for living his faith. And yet, silence from the "religious" supporters of drumpf/trump-pence and the republican party. From DailyKos and The Hill.....
Paul Ryan fires House chaplain, reportedly for being way too Christian

"Devout" Catholic Speaker Paul Ryan has apparently fired House Chaplain Patrick Conroy, whose resignation explicitly says Ryan forced him out.
"As you have requested, I hereby offer my resignation as the 60th Chaplain of the United States House of Representatives." the April 15 letter to Ryan, obtained by The Hill, states. […]
The thinking among Democrats is that Ryan pushed Conroy out "because Republicans thought he was aligned with Democrats," according to a senior Democratic aide familiar with the discussion.
Conroy has served as chaplain since 2011, where he has been what he's supposed to be. A Christian. Like in the prayer he gave back in November on the first day of the mark-up of the tax scam bill and gently nudged members to think about the meek.
"May all Members be mindful that the institutions and structures of our great Nation guarantee the opportunities that have allowed some to achieve great success, while others continue to struggle," Conroy said at the time. "May their efforts these days guarantee that there are not winners and losers under new tax laws, but benefits balanced and shared by all Americans."
So apparently Conroy was too aligned with Democrats. Maybe because Jesus would be aligned with the Democrats. That's how much of a sociopath Paul Ryan is.

House chaplain forced out by Ryan

BY MELANIE ZANONA AND MIKE LILLIS -

House Chaplain Patrick Conroy’s sudden resignation has sparked a furor on Capitol Hill, with sources in both parties saying he was pushed out by Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.).
Conroy’s own resignation announcement stated that it was done at Ryan’s request.
“As you have requested, I hereby offer my resignation as the 60th Chaplain of the United States House of Representatives,” the April 15 letter to Ryan, obtained by The Hill, states.
Through his office, Conroy, who has served as chaplain since 2011, declined to comment on Thursday. His resignation is effective May 24.
Four different sources — two from each party — say Conroy was told that he must retire or that he would be dismissed.
The message from Ryan was delivered by his chief of staff, Jonathan Burks.
The issue has riled House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), who broached the episode during the Democrats’ whip meeting in the Capitol Thursday morning.
A bipartisan group of lawmakers are planning to send a letter to Ryan requesting additional information regarding Conroy’s dismissal; the group is currently circulating the letter among colleagues to collect more signatures.
The thinking among Democrats is that Ryan pushed Conroy out “because Republicans thought he was aligned with Democrats,” according to a senior Democratic aide familiar with the discussion.
House chaplains, who offer an opening prayer each day the House is in session, are supposed to be nonpartisan.
It’s unclear exactly what if any political dispute, however, led to the chaplain’s dismissal.
A Democratic lawmaker said that the Speaker took issue with a prayer on the House floor that could have been perceived as being critical of the GOP tax-cut bill.
On Nov. 6 — the first day of the markup on the GOP's tax bill — Conroy in a prayer urged lawmakers to ensure the legislation did not exacerbate the nation's gaping class disparities.

A senior GOP aide said Conroy’s exit “was not because of any particular prayer."

Ryan’s and Pelosi’s offices agree that Pelosi was told in advance that the chaplain was leaving.
AshLee Strong, a spokeswoman for Ryan, said it was Ryan’s decision, but declined to offer a reason for the move. She added that Pelosi and her office “were fully read in and did not object.”
"The speaker told Leader Pelosi that he would not move forward with the decision if she objected and she chose not to," Strong said.
In a separate statement to media outlets late Thursday, Strong said, "The speaker consulted with the minority leader, but the decision was his. He remains grateful for Father Conroy’s service."
Pelosi’s office disputed that the Democrat did not object.
“Leader Pelosi was given advance notice by Speaker Ryan," said a Pelosi spokesman, but she “also made it clear to Speaker Ryan that she disagreed with this decision.”
A second Democratic aide said Conroy’s ouster was “largely driven by a speech on the tax bill that the Speaker didn't like.” But the source also offered a second reason.
“Some of the more conservative evangelical Republicans didn't like that the Father had invited a Muslim person to give the opening prayer,” the source said.
When Pelosi, who is Catholic, informed members of her whip team on Thursday morning that Conroy was pushed out against his will, it “shocked” the members, according to one lawmaker.
Catholic members on both sides of the aisle were furious to learn that Conroy’s retirement was not voluntary, according to multiple sources, including one Republican lawmaker and one Democratic member.
Ryan, who is also Catholic, has appointed Rep. Doug Collins (R-Ga.), an Air Force Reserve chaplain, as well as Reps. Mark Walker (R-N.C.) and Tim Walberg (R-Mich.), both former pastors, to lead the search effort to find a replacement.
Conroy’s arrival on Capitol Hill was also marked with some controversy. The Jesuit priest was nominated by former Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) in May 2011, but Pelosi urged additional vetting of the pick after learning that Conroy was then working for a Catholic religious order — the Oregon Province of the Society of Jesus — that had agreed just months earlier to pay $166 million to victims of sexual abuse going back decades.
There was no evidence that Conroy was involved in the scandal, nor did Pelosi suggest that was the case. After further questioning, she endorsed his nomination.

News Alert: Trump's own running mate unloads on him: 'I do not condone his remarks and cannot defend them' & Top Republicans Are ‘Sickened’ By Trump — But Support Him Anyway 8OKT16

If pence is outraged by donald drumpf's/trump's comments why does he remain his running mate. The only answer is that he doesn't really have a problem with drumpf's/trump's comments, he is doing damage control. Other republican candidates are running from the drumpf/trump-pence ticket to save their campaigns, those who are staying with the drump/trump-pence must have the same attitudes as the republican presidential-vice-presidential ticket. News Alert: Trump's own running mate unloads on him: 'I do not condone his remarks and cannot defend them'

Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, the Republican vice presidential nominee, released a statement Saturday denouncing lewd comments Donald Trump made about women in 2005, saying he “cannot defend them.”
“As a husband and father, I was offended by the words and actions described by Donald Trump in the eleven-year-old video released yesterday. I do not condone his remarks and cannot defend them,” Pence said in a statement. “I am grateful that he has expressed remorse and apologized to the American people. We pray for his family and look forward to the opportunity he has to show what is in his heart when he goes before the nation tomorrow night.”
The Washington Post published the footage of Trump on Friday. In it, Trump talks about trying to have sex with married women and being able to grab women “by the pussy” because of his fame.
After the recording was released, Trump was dropped from a Saturday event in Wisconsin with House Speaker Paul Ryan (R). Pence was scheduled to take his place, but the governor decided on Saturday that he also would not attend the event.
After first issuing a nonapology and calling his comments “locker room talk,” Trump released a video saying he “was wrong” to have said what he did. He also vowed he would “never” drop out of the presidential race.
A slew of Republicans rescinded their support for Trump over the comments, but several top members of the party ― including Ryan ― haven’t actually withdrawn their endorsements of the presidential nominee.

What will it take?

US CONGRESS
Prominent Republicans are once again finding themselves criticizing their party’s presidential nominee ― but not actually withdrawing their support for him.
The Washington Post on Friday published a leaked video in which Donald Trump bragged about groping women and hitting on a married woman.
“I am automatically attracted to beautiful women. I just start kissing them. It’s like a magnet. Just kiss, I don’t even wait,” Trump said in a 2005 conversation with “Access Hollywood” host Billy Bush. “Grab them by the pussy. You can do anything.”
Republican leaders rushed to condemn his remarks ― as they have time and time again
Trump’s running mate, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, said he does not condone the candidate’s comments but is “grateful that he has expressed remorse.”
Trump admitted the conversation with Bush was “wrong” but quickly pivoted to talk of Bill Clinton’s affairs
House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) responded to the newly released footage by saying, “I am sickened by what I heard today.”
“Women are to be championed and revered, not objectified,” Ryan said, while continuing to support the GOP nominee. “I hope Mr. Trump treats this situation with the seriousness it deserves and works to demonstrate to the country that he has greater respect for women than this clip suggests.”
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell called on Trump to “apologize directly to women and girls everywhere, and take full responsibility.” But he also stopped short of telling Trump to drop out of the race.
Republican National Committee Chair Reince Priebus said, “No woman should ever be described in these terms or talked about in this manner. Ever.”
Priebus is also continuing to support and fund Trump’s campaign.
Two former Trump rivals-turned-Trump backers, Sens. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) and Ted Cruz (R-Texas), also weighed in. Although Rubio said it was “impossible to justify” Trump’s offensive comments, he did not withdraw his endorsement.
Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), who has also endorsed the GOP nominee, said the comments were “lewd & insulting.”
Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.), who chairs the House Republican Conference, said, “It is never appropriate to condone unwanted sexual advances or violence against women. Mr. Trump must realize that it has no place in public or private conversations today or in the past.”
Liz Cheney, the daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney who is running for Congress in Wyoming, also condemned Trump while declining to pull her endorsement.
But for some prominent Republicans ― who had already stuck with Trump through repeated instances of sexismfat-shaming and casual pedophilic remarks ― enough was enough.
Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R), however, said the media’s obsession with Trump’s comments are as offensive as the comments themselves.
“Disgusting, shameful, totally disrespectful ‘locker room’ garbage, privately shared between two Hollywood playboys over a decade ago, is now made to be ‘the crudeness heard ‘round the world.’ The old Bush and Trump braggart comments were beyond abhorrent and offensive, though both boys apologized for them,” she wrote in a Facebook post. She also wrote that she was sure Hillary Clinton had made comments that were more crude while in private.
