A middle school starts the year with 3 math teachers and one gets fired for being a racist. How many remain?

An as-of-yet unnamed language arts teacher at Burns Middle School in Mobile, Alabama, is on administrative leave after giving 8th grade students a shockingly racist math test. Erica Hall’s son was so shocked that he snuck a photo of the test and sent it to his mom. 

From Fox 10:

"They took it as a joke, and she told them that it wasn't it a joke, and they had to complete it, and turn it in," Hall said.

Erica Hall and her husband headed to the school Tuesday for some answers.

A sample of the questions on the test:

"Tyrone knocked up 4 girls in the gang. There are 20 girls in his gang. What is the exact percentage of girls Tyrone knocked up?"

Fox10 reporter Renee Dials researched the origins of the test:

FOX10 News did some research to try to find out where the test may have originated. What we discovered is that it apparently has a long history. Similar versions of the 10-question quiz have been turning up in classrooms across the country since the 1990s.

And, a lot of teachers have ended up in hot water over the test in several states including Texas, California, and New Mexico.  

The teacher no doubt found the test from her racist uncle who hit forward on a hilariously racist email that has been circulating for 20 years. Parents and students told Fox10 the teacher was retiring at the end of the school year. This sounds like it may have been an attempt to go out in one big blazing ball of racist glory. In Court: Uncovering Stingrays, A Troubling New Location Tracking Device
The ACLU and Electronic Frontier Foundation have filed an amicus brief in what will be the first case to address the constitutional implications of a so-called “stingray,” a little- known device that can be used to track a suspect’s location and engage in other types of surveillance. We argue that if the government wants to use invasive surveillance technology like this, it must explain the technology to the courts so they can perform their judicial oversight function as required by the Constitution.
ACLU Asking the Federal Government How It’s Using Drones Inside the U.S.
This week the ACLU filed Freedom of Information Act requests seeking records related to the federal government’s domestic use of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) – better known as drones – as well as plans for the future rollout of drones in the U. S. Drone technology is largely a product of our war efforts abroad, but the federal government is repurposing these machines for surveillance purposes at home.
Marty Atencio (1967-2011): Another Victim of Sheriff Joe Arpaio's Jails
Earnest “Marty” Atencio, 44 years old, died on December 20, 2011.  His dead body was covered with bruises, lacerations and puncture marks – wounds that made him look like the victim of a vicious attack by criminals.  But Atencio wasn’t attacked on the street; the attack that cost him his life took place at the Maricopa County jails (MCJ) in Phoenix, run by the self-styled “toughest sheriff in America,” Joe Arpaio, and the assailants wore badges and uniforms.
Next Monday at the Supreme Court: Trying to Stop the NSA’s Unconstitutional Overreach
The next time you send an email or make a phone call to a friend outside the country, consider this: the National Security Agency could be making a copy of your communication and storing it. What about the Fourth Amendment? According to the government, not only is this practice constitutional, but ordinary federal courts should not even be allowed to rule on it.
On Monday, the ACLU will be at the Supreme Court to argue this issue in our lawsuit challenging the NSA’s warrantless wiretapping program, which Congress authorized in the FISA Amendments Act of 2008.
Washington State Votes by Mail to Approve Referendum 74
Voters in three states – Maine, Maryland, and Washington – have the opportunity to be the first to grant same-sex couples the freedom to marry, and voters in Minnesota can be the first to defeat a hurtful constitutional amendment to ban marriage for same-sex couples. Washingtonians can start sending in their ballots to approve Referendum 74 and secure the freedom to marry for gay and lesbian couples.

It may be summer break for some people. But, those forces out to undermine our fundamental freedoms aren't taking any time off. Here are just a few stunning reminders of why you and the ACLU need to remain active and vigilant: You've got to be kidding. High school students forced to take pregnancy tests and then forced out of schools if they're pregnant — or if they refuse to take the test. Think it can't happen in today's America? Think again. It's happening right now in the Delhi Charter School in Louisiana. Find out more about the forced pregnancy tests in this blatant violation of Title IX. Did that really just pass? Yesterday, Missouri voted on Amendment 2, the "Public Prayer Amendment," which could turn all governmental meetings into worship services. That sure doesn't sound like the separation of church and state guaranteed in the Constitution to us — in fact, that sounds like it blatantly encourages state promotion of religion. Sadly, the amendment passed. But as has been the hallmark of the ACLU for the past 90 years, we're far from giving up. America's racial profiling sheriff. For those familiar with Joe Arpaio, even the name can elicit chills. For years, Sheriff Arpaio of Maricopa County, Arizona has engaged in blatant and unabashed targeting of Latinos. We just finished arguing a class-action lawsuit that seeks to prove Sheriff Arpaio violated the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment — that his county's practices discriminate on the basis of race. Read more about the case and Sherriff Joe's views on racial profiling. Creepy factor: High. Automatic license plate readers. Sounds like something on the SyFy Network, but they're actually being used by local law enforcement all over the country. By snapping photographs of each license plate they encounter — up to three thousand per minute — and retaining records of who was where when, license plate readers are fundamentally threatening our freedom on the open road. Last week, ACLU affiliates in 39 states filed public records requests seeking information on how this information is being used. Learn more on our efforts to stop this atrocious policy. Victory! Last week, we stopped an outrageous attempt in the House of Representatives to enact a law that would ban abortions in the District of Columbia that are necessary to protect a woman's health. The law went so far that it could have forced a woman and her doctor to wait until her condition is terminal before finally acting to protect her health. And, in another victory, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals granted our emergency request to temporarily block a similar ban on abortions in Arizona. Every time we are able to turn back one of these outrageous measures, more women are protected from indefensible intrusions into their most personal decisions.
