Dear Friend of Sea Shepherd,

We cannot thank you enough for your amazing support throughout Operation Zero Tolerance. It would not have been nearly as successful without you. Our mighty vessles are finally en route to their homeport of Melbourne and scheduled for arrival next week, following our most successful Antarctic whale defence campaign to date.

Sea Shepherd Australia still need your support as all four ships were heavily battered during their long and arduous ordeal in the Australian Antarctic waters defending our magnificent whales.
Once More Into the Southern Ocean Breach!

The events that unfolded before the end of campaign were like watching a bad horror movie - when the heroes turn their back and the credits are about to roll, the killer rises up again, this time with harpoon in hand to kill another defenseless whale. Find out what crazy events unfolded before the end of the whaling season.
Sea Shepherd Fleet Sets Sail for Homeport

After being escorted out of the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary by Sea Shepherd Australia, the Japanese whaling fleet made an about-face and headed back toward the whale sanctuary, though not for practicality. Read the rest of this article!
Again, we cannot show our gratitude enough to all of you that have shown tremendous support throughout Operation Zero Tolerance. We are very excited to welcome our crew home next Wednesday into Melbourne, and are looking forward to having ship tours start up again soon after they arrive. We would love to see you all down there!

Thanks to you, this has been our most successful campaign and we have gained so much more support and awareness for the plight of the whales in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary. This illegal slaughter will no longer go unnoticed and you can help us continue to fight poachers worldwide, ending this once and for all!

Sea Shepherd E-News: Operation Zero Tolerance 6FEB13

UPDATE on Operation Zero Tolerance and a video of Capt Paul Watson in ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corp) from Sea Shepherd....

Dear Craig,

Thanks to you we have managed to ensure the illegal Japanese whalers have killed no whales this season. Operation Zero Tolerance is living up to its name! That was the first January that zero whales have been killed!

With your continuing support of Operation Zero Tolerance, we are sure we can make this campaign a massive success. Please keep us in Antarctic waters as long as necessary and donate to the Whales Navy.
SSS Bob Barker Tailed by the Attack Dog of the Whaling Fleet
Following the first no-kill January, the SSS Bob Barker found itself being tailed by the Japanese whaler's ship the Shonan Maru 2.

In order to escape the armed Japanese Government vessel, which is known as the attack dog of Japan's illegal whaling fleet, the SSS Bob Barker travelled into the Australian territorial waters of Macquarie Island.

The Macquarie Base commander had been notified by the Australian Antarctic Division to expect the potential arrival of the Shonan Maru No. 2. Learn what happened next...
Australian Government Orders Japanese Whalers to Leave Australian Waters
The Japanese security vessel, the Shonan Maru No. 2, which is carrying armed coast guards, entered the Australian Exclusive Economic Zone around Macquarie Island in pursuit of the SSS Bob Barker.

The Australian government has officially notified the Japanese government to order their vessel to remain outside of Australian waters. Find out if the whalers followed the orders...
With increasing support from the Australian government, due to your zero tolerance of whales being murdered, we are getting that much closer to keeping the Whale Sanctuary safe.

Unfortunately it's not over yet, but with your help I truly believe we can make this campaign live up to its name- Operation Zero Tolerance!

Sea Shepherd E-News: Operation Zero Tolerance 25JAN13 & Statement from Captain Paul Watson 7JAN13 & Sea Shepherd Ordered By U.S. Appeals Court To Keep 500 Yards Away From Japanese Whalers 18DEZ12

Capt Paul Watson has resigned his leadership positions in Sea Shepherd and as captain of the Steve Irwin as a result of a ruling by the US 9th Circuit Court. This is in response to the case brought against Sea Shepherd by the japanese whaling industry which continues to violate international law with their whaling in the Southern Whale Sanctuary. Below is the statement from Capt Watson on his resignation, an article from HuffPost on the court decision and the latest e mail newsletter from Sea Shepherd on the new leadership of the organization and Operation Zero Tolerance. If you can please make a donation to Sea Shepherd (a 4 star charity per Charity Navigator) to show the japanese whaling industry Sea Shepherd will continue their anti-whaling operations with the support of people around the world.

For the 35 years since I founded the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society I have strived to act non-violently and within the boundaries of the law.
Sea Shepherd has never been a protest organization nor have we engaged in civil disobedience. We are an anti-poaching organization established to uphold international conservation law. We operate within the guidelines of the United Nations World Charter for Nature that allows for intervention by non-profit non-governmental organizations and individuals to uphold international conservation law.
During Sea Shepherd’s long history we have never caused a single injury to any person. Although we have broken some bureaucratic regulations like Canada’s so called Seal Protection Act, we did so to challenge the validity of these regulations, which were in contradiction to the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. In all other respects we have always operated within the boundaries of the law, both international and national.
In 1998 Sea Shepherd USA complied with the order by the United States Coast Guard to not approach within a thousand yards of the Makah whaling operation in Washington State.
I myself have never been convicted of a felony crime.
And for this reason, the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society in the United States and myself as a U.S. citizen must comply with the order by the 9th Circuit court of the United States.
Because I have been personally named in the injunction I have resigned as the President of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society in the United States and as President of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society Australia. I have also resigned my position of Executive Director of Sea Shepherd Conservation Society USA and I will hold no paid position with Sea Shepherd anywhere Sea Shepherd is registered and operates as a non-profit organization in any nation.
I have also stepped down as campaign leader for Operation Zero Tolerance. Former Greens Party leader and former Australian Senator, Bob Brown of Tasmania will now hold this position.
I have also stepped down as Captain of the Steve Irwin. Captain Siddharth Chakravarty of India is now in command of the Steve Irwin. The other three Captains are citizens of Sweden, France and Australia.
As a United States citizen, I will respect and comply with the ruling of the United States 9th District Court and will not violate the temporary injunction granted to the Institute for Cetacean Research.  I will participate as an observer within the boundaries established by the 9th Circuit Court of the United States.
