Action Alert: End the Blockade Against Cuba Join us now to contact Congress and demand an end to hostilities against Cuba. In this moment, we must follow the best traditions of our faith and extend our hand to Cuba in love and charity. Demand that we start true diplomatic talks paired with natural disaster aid for the island while respecting the Cuban people’s right to determine their own government. MY E MAILS TO REP SUBRAMANYAM D-VA 10TH, SEN WARNER D-VA AND SEN KAINE D-VA I'm writing you as a concerned Christian with the request you support efforts to end the blockade against Cuba. The current situation in Cuba has grown dire as a result of the blockade against the country by our military. We would urge you to recognize the people in Cuba are also made in the image of God as we are. These past few weeks have seen the people of Cuba plunged into a humanitarian crisis as the island experienced an earthquake amid an energy crisis caused by the ongoing pressure campaign from the United States under the Trump Administration. The nation has had a power grid failure as this natural disaster exacerbates the needs of the Cuban people. Healthcare and food were already becoming increasingly precarious, and the need for support in these areas will now be even more acute. As Christians, we are bound to care for the needy, the vulnerable, and the poor, as we ourselves would like to be cared for. In Luke 10:29, Jesus was asked, “Who is my neighbor?” and he responded with the parable of the Good Samaritan, who went out of his way to care for someone once considered an enemy. It is with this spirit that we must reset our relationship with Cuba. In this moment, we must follow the best traditions of our faith and extend our hand to Cuba in love and charity. As a Christian, I ask that Congress act with the values we hold dear. Pass legislation ending Trump’s efforts to “take over” Cuba by causing a humanitarian crisis. Instead, demand that we start true diplomatic talks paired with natural disaster aid for the island while respecting the Cuban people’s right to determine their own government. The policies we pass must reflect our love and care for our neighbors, as they carry real consequences for people's lives. It is with this in mind I urge you to encourage co-sponsorship and voice support for bills like U.S. HR 8103 which would prohibit federal funds for military action against Cuba and HR 7521 lifting the trade embargo against the country so that we can work to help the Cuban people recover from the results of the blockade and natural disaster. I appreciate your service in Congress and urge you to support diplomacy and an end to needless suffering by ending hostilities against the country of Cuba. |
