Scenes From a Day of Mass Protests
Protesters gathered in major cities and small towns across the country on Saturday, rallying against presidential actions that they see as authoritarian.
It was the second time this year that the “No Kings” demonstrations, scheduled in all 50 states and several U.S. territories, took place. In June, an estimated five million people participated in some 2,000 protests nationwide that were also focused on policies enacted by President Trump.
This round of protests occurred as a government shutdown dragged into its third week and as tensions simmered in cities like Chicago, Ill. and Portland, Ore. where the administration’s sweeping immigration crackdowns have triggered local backlash.
Some protests also occurred overseas, with more than a dozen scheduled throughout Europe and at least one expected in Australia.
