The need to move beyond yesterday's ideas and divisions is more urgent
than ever. And as the eyes of the nation turn to our marquee U.S. Senate contest here in Virginia,
we have the opportunity to make a big difference.
It's time to put results before rhetoric and real solutions for our country over the same tired slash-and-burn politics -- by sending my good friend Tim Kaine to the U.S. Senate.
Tim faces an important end-of-quarter fundraising deadline in just 2 days, and I'm asking for your help. Things have changed a lot since my U.S. Senate campaign in 2008. This year, the growth of spending by outside groups funded by secret campaign donations threatens to drown out the voices of everyday Virginians. It's up to us to help Tim fight back and spread his message of job creation and economic growth all across our great Commonwealth.
Please make a contribution today. We need to raise another $59,052 before the end-of-quarter fundraising deadline to send a big message that, when we work together, there's nothing we can't overcome.
At a time when we're dealing with massive federal deficits and gridlock in Congress, Washington could learn a few things from what Tim and I did here in Virginia.
In 2002, then-Lieutenant Governor Kaine and I were faced with a $6 billion shortfall. Our predecessors had let government spending balloon under their watch. They used all sorts of irresponsible budget gimmicks to kick the can down the road, and when the recession hit, the house of cards began to fall.
So Tim and I got to work. We made tough choices, cutting state spending while preserving safety net programs and making record investments in education. We worked across the aisle with Republican legislators on a tax reform package that secured our triple-A bond rating and ultimately earned Virginia national recognition as the "Best State for Business," the best managed state, and the best state to raise a child.
Tim is exactly the type of public servant we need in Congress. His bipartisan style and effectiveness as a leader will change Washington for the better. Now, we all need to do our part to help him get there -- and that starts with making sure that he has the resources he needs.
Please make a contribution now, before the March 31st deadline, to help get the message out about Tim's record of finding common ground and delivering results. Every dollar helps to fight through the millions in secret money that will continue to be spent against him.
Thank you for supporting Tim. With your help, I look forward to serving with him again -- in the U.S. Senate.
