TAKE ACTION: Defend the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument  16MAI26

HALF way through the second year of his ( most unfortunate ) second term it seems that NOT MY pres drumpf / trump, his corrupt drumpf / trump-vance administration and the gop / greed over people-republican party is realizing they will probably lose their ability to eliminate laws, restrictions and regulations protecting American public lands after the 2026 midterm elections. Jumping because drumpf / trump told them to jump, and because they have been bought and paid for by the rich and corporate America, fascist fotze trunt Rep celeste maloy r-UT with fascist fotze trunt Sen mikie lee r-UT, both ass-licking drumpf / trump sycophants, are introducing in the House and Senate resolutions invoking a CRA ( Congressional Review Act ) that if passed and signed by the president will revoke all regulations and protections now applied to Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. Please sign the petition from EarthJustice to congress to defeat this CRA, and then if you have time e mail your representative and senators telling them to vote against this CRA. My e mails will be at the end of this post. If you don't think these actions do any good consider these from EarthJustice....

You level the playing field.

Elected officials pay attention when they see that we are paying attention.

They may be hearing from industry lobbyists left and right, but hearing the stories of their constituents — that’s your power.

Our legislators serve at the pleasure of the people who gave them their job — you.

Make sure your elected officials know whose community and whose values they represent. When you contact your elected official, you’re putting a face and a name on an issue.

Whether or not you voted for them, they work for you, for the duration of their term.

Make sure your elected officials know whose community and whose values they represent. (Find your local, state, and federal elected officials.)

Your action is with us in court.

If a federal agency finalizes a harmful action, the record of public comments provides a basis for bringing them into court.

Throughout each of the public comment periods we alert you to, Earthjustice’s attorneys are researching and writing in-depth, technical comments to submit — detailing how the regulation could and should be stronger to protect the environment, our communities, and our planet.

We need you to join us — your specific experiences, knowledge, and voice are crucial to add to the Administrative Record through the comment periods.

Lawsuits we file that challenge weak or harmful federal regulations rely on what was submitted during the comment period. The court can only look at documents that are in the Administrative Record — including the public comments — to decide if the agency did something improper.

Your actions aid our litigation. Taking action and submitting comments during a comment period is substantively important.

It’s the law.

Federal agencies must pause what they’re doing and ask for — and consider — your comment.

Many of us may have never heard of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the Administrative Procedure Act (APA), but laws like these require our government to ask the public to weigh in before agencies adopt or change regulations.

Regulations essentially describe how federal agencies will carry out laws — including decisions that could undermine science, or weaken safeguards on public health.

Public comments are collected at various points throughout the federal government’s rulemaking process, including when a regulation is proposed and finalized. (Learn about the rulemaking process.) These comments become part of the official, legal public record — the “Administrative Record.”

When the public responds with a huge outpouring of support for environmental protections, these individual messages collectively undercut politicians' attempts to claim otherwise.

What this means is each of us can take a role in shaping the rules our government creates — and ensuring those rules are fair and effective.

EARTHJUSTICE | BECAUSE THE EARTH NEEDS A GOOD LAWYER

There are threats that could bring chaos to a treasured landscape in Utah — help us defend it.
TAKE ACTION
The vast and austere landscape of the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument offers a spectacular array of scientific and historic resources. Our national monuments are once again under attack, and Earthjustice is defending these vital public lands. The Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, a national monument totaling 1.9 million acres in southern Utah, is a treasured landscape in the nation’s public lands system. Several members of Congress introduced a resolution that would strip protections from Grand Staircase-Escalante and we need your help. An attack on Grand Staircase-Escalante could set precedent for similar attacks on national monuments across the country. Send a letter to your representatives today.
Lawmakers have been abusing a little-known law called the Congressional Review Act (CRA) to strip protections from millions of acres of America’s public lands. Now members of Congress reportedly want to use this law to attack Grand Staircase-Escalante, and likely other national monuments in the future. While this is the first attack on a national monument using the CRA, it won’t be the last if we don’t oppose it. The CRA is a powerful tool that allows Congress to bypass normal democratic processes, like public notice and comments, to help industry develop our most cherished public lands.
To undo a rule, the CRA requires both chambers of Congress to pass a joint resolution of disapproval, which then goes to the president to sign.
If this resolution is passed, Grand Staircase Escalante’s management will be thrown into chaos, with rules that protect the monument’s irreplaceable resources tossed in the trash. We cannot let this happen.
When President Trump attempted to dismantle Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante in 2017, Earthjustice filed a lawsuit. After it was restored by the Biden administration in 2021, Earthjustice also successfully intervened in a legal challenge to the restoration. Advocates like you have stayed with us along every step of the way by putting pressure on your representatives, and we need you with us again.
Contact your members of Congress today and ask them to protect Grand Staircase-Escalante from irreversible destruction.

Sign the petition: Trump's latest $200 million vanity project 9AUG25

NOT MY pres drumpf / trump has already shown what low class trash he is with all the gaudy gold in the oval office, the paving of the rose garden, his giant flag poles giving the grounds that car dealership / truck stop look and his plans for the ballroom addition. There is no way we can let him defile Mount Rushmore with his mug shot added. AND, those who know the specifics about stone carving have already repeatedly said there just isn't room for another face carving there. Still, drumpf / trump will use his magat cultist to pressure the Dept of Interior and the Park Service to add him to this historic site even at the risk of damaging or destroying it. If he wants that type of self-aggrandising monument he can have his mug shot added to Stone Mountain in Georgia, he'll fit in there with all the other traitors. Please sign this petition from Demand Progress to Congress to prevent drumpf / trump from being added to Mount Rushmore and e mail your representative and senators telling them to stop this from happening. My e mails to congress will be at the endo of this post.

TELL CONGRESS: Trump's new vanity project is a $200 million White House ballroom. He just cemented over the Rose Garden and pressured the Smithsonian to remove an exhibit about his two impeachments — a blatant move to control and rewrite history. And his loyalists are pushing to get his face on Mount Rushmore. Sign the petition: Oppose Trump's vanity projects and don't put Trump on Mount Rushmore!

Trump is planning to build a $200 million White House ballroom.1 It’s yet another ridiculous vanity project in the background of the administration’s ever-escalating authoritarianism.

After Trump cemented over the White House Rose Garden, and pressured the Smithsonian to remove an exhibit on his two impeachments,2,3 it’s clear that he’s trying to put his MAGA stamp on the White House AND control history.

Trump’s sycophants in Congress are still pushing proposals to get his face on Mount Rushmore, currency, airports, and landmarks. It’s critical that our lawmakers stand against these insidious displays of Trump-worship.

Sign the petition: Keep Trump off of Mount Rushmore, currency, and other landmarks — stop Trump’s push to control history.

Trump loyalist Rep. Andy Ogles recently urged the government to put Trump on Mount Rushmore. After saying the White House is ushering in “America’s Golden Age,” Ogles added, “it is essential that we immortalize President Trump’s likeness on Mount Rushmore.”4 He joined a wave of GOP efforts to get Trump’s name on the D.C. metro, Dulles airport, the Kennedy Center, and currency.5

Just two months ago, Trump put on a wasteful, grotesque military parade celebrating his birthday. Putting Trump’s own face on Mount Rushmore would be another act of a strongman.

The drive to put Trump’s face on Mount Rushmore is particularly disturbing because the monument is built in the Black Hills on unceded Lakota territory — deeply important land that the U.S. government stole from Native Americans.6 And the person who led the construction of Mount Rushmore had ties to the KKK.7

Sitting presidents don’t belong on money, monuments, airports, and landmarks — especially not Trump, whose administration continuously defies the rule of law and threatens our democracy.

Sign the petition: Reject all efforts to put Trump on Mount Rushmore!

Thanks for taking action,

Joey and the Demand Progress team

Trump loyalist Rep. Andy Ogles wrote to Interior Secretary Doug Burgum recently urging the government to put Trump on Mount Rushmore. After saying the White House is ushering in America’s Golden Age, Ogles added, “it is essential that we immortalize President Trump’s likeness on Mount Rushmore.”

Just like Trump’s grotesque wasteful military parade he perverted for his own birthday, glorifying a sitting president with national statues and monuments is another step toward authoritarianism.

Rep. Ogle’s plan follows Interior Secretary Burgum saying earlier this year that there’s “definitely” room for Trump on Rushmore.

The drive to put Trump’s face on Mount Rushmore is more disturbing because the monument is built in the Black Hills on unceded Lakota territory — deeply important land that the U.S. government stole from Native Americans. As the White House tries to open up public land for destructive mining and drilling, the Interior Department seems more focused on celebrating Trump than fulfilling its duties to protect public lands.

I expect you to work with the entire Virginia congressional delegation and other representatives and senators to stop this proposal before it starts.

has written Sec of Interior fascist fotze doug burgum asking him to make arrangements for NOT MY pres drumpf's / trump's face be added to Mount Rushmore. Engineers already considered the possibility of adding another president and determined the remaining space is too small and lacks the structural integrity for another carving. The thought of adding drumpf / trump to Mount Rushmore is obscene, it would be a desecration of this national monument ( but not as bad as Mount Rushmore is desecrating sacred Native American land ) and must be stopped.  Please sign this petition from Demand Progress to congress and e mail your representative and senators demanding they do everything possible to stop this proposal.

TAKE ACTION STOP TRUMP’S RACE TO MINE BEARS EARS & GRAND STAIRCASE-ESCALANTE, OUR NATIONAL MONUMENTS 18NOV18

Image result for national monuments
PLEASE participate in this action by EarthJustice click the link and send a message to the BLM to deny the drumpf / trump-pence administration's plans to destroy the Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments by reducing the size of the monuments and by opening them up to coal and uranium mining. Add your comments to the letter provided if you can, here is what I added after the first paragraph....

These lands, part the heritage and history of our nation, can not be sacrificed to satisfy the corporate greed of the fossil fuel industries and utilities and the nuclear fuel industries and utilities. They must not be destroyed by mining and drilling to prolong our dependence on dirty and unsafe energy sources when our nation is still reeling from back to back massive hurricanes and huge, deadly, destructive wildfires in California and throughout the Western U.S., the effects of climate change. We do not need more coal and uranium mines, we need more investment in wind, solar, tidal and other renewable energy resources.  Stop Proclamation 9682 and protect the Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments for eternity for the good of our nation.

TAKE ACTION

STOP TRUMP’S RACE TO MINE OUR MONUMENTS

Last December, President Trump flew to Utah and issued an order to strip protections from millions of acres in Bears Ears and Grand Staircase–Escalante national monuments.
Now, the administration is scrambling to take advantage of Trump’s unlawful order, developing new plans to open these lands up to coal and uranium mining before Americans can have their day in court to protect the monuments.
These lands belong to the public, not to coal and uranium companies that want to plunder their resources, leaving devastation in their wake. Earthjustice is fighting back in court, but we need you to speak up. The Department of the Interior is taking public comments now — tell the Trump administration that these lands aren’t up for grabs.
Bears Ears and Grand Staircase are unique wonderlands. Bears Ears contains ancient cliff dwellings, kivas, and priceless petroglyphs, while Grand Staircase is home to a treasure trove of fossils — more than a dozen new dinosaur species have been discovered there since the monument was established.
Trump’s hasty plans will allow coal, oil, and gas companies to mine and drill nearly 700,000 acres of lands that rightfully should be part of Grand Staircase–Escalante National Monument. Under this “preferred plan,” extractive industries will destroy almost all of the lands unlawfully cut from Grand Staircase — all for the private profit of a few corporations. These lands are far more valuable to the local economy and the local job market if they remain protected.
Trump’s plan will also exclude the Bears Ears Tribes — the Navajo Nation, Hopi Tribe, Ute Mountain Ute Tribe, Pueblo of Zuni, and Ute Indian Tribe — from truly having a voice in the management of public lands that hold their priceless heritage.
Help us stop this needless destruction. Weigh in now during the public comment period for Trump’s new plans for these monuments. These lands don’t belong to coal and uranium companies — they belong to all of us.

TAKE ACTION: This bill would clear-cut our national forests and silence your voice 6JUL17

I grew up in the forest of NW Pennsylvania, mom still lives in the house we built back in the woods in 1970 and I love to go home to refresh my soul, mind and body. For those who are not as fortunate as me to have a forest home to escape to our national forest across the country offer refuge not only for the flora and fauna but we, the people. The drumpf/trump-pence administration has plans to turn our national forest (and parks) over to the corporate entities who have bought and paid for them and the republican controlled congress. As soon as they won the presidency we knew we would have to fight many battles to protect what is ours, the nation's. WE can not stop, WE must not become weary, WE must meet each threat head on and WE will win. Please click the link and send a message to you representative and tell them (you can tell them, they are your employee) to vote against H.R. 2936, and let them know you'll be watching their vote. From EarthJustice......
MY message to rep barbara comstock r VA
Corporate greed, not national need is the reason for HR2936. I demand you vote against this bill and tell this administration we will not tolerate our national forest, national parks, national resources being given away to corporate America to rape and pillage to increase their profit margins. You, Rep Comstock, are at risk of loosing your seat in the House because you do not represent the people of your district. Vote for HR2936 at your own risk.
The so-called “Resilient Federal Forests Act of 2017” (H.R. 2936) is a stunning setback to our public lands.

A bill making its way through Congress threatens to destroy environmental and judicial protections.

Tell your representative to vote NO on H.R. 2936.

The so-called “Resilient Federal Forests Act of 2017” (H.R. 2936) is a stunning setback to our public lands. It is one of the most extreme attacks we’ve ever seen on our national forests and many of the bedrock laws that protect our public lands, wildlife and the fabric of our democracy.
A more appropriate name for this bill, which passed the House Natural Resources Committee in late June, would be the “Massive Gift to the Timber Industry at All Costs Act of 2017”.

  • It not only leaves millions of acres of protected roadless areas vulnerable to harmful road building and logging, it also shifts funding away from environmental restoration to timber production.
  • It attacks the Endangered Species Act by eliminating checks and balances designed to avoid jeopardizing listed species and destroying their habitat.
  • It cuts out meaningful public involvement provided by the National Environmental Policy Act by creating multiple waivers for environmental review, and it eliminates the opportunity for public citizens to hold the government accountable in a court of law.
  • It puts our national monuments at risk by overriding Cascade-Siskiyou’s National Monument designation.

Our national forests and grasslands are a national treasure. They provide a broad range of values and benefits, including clean air and water, outstanding recreational opportunities, biodiversity, fish and wildlife habitat, forest products, erosion control, soil renewal and more. It is critical to preserve and protect these public lands for future generations to come, and to provide the Forest Service with the resources it needs to do so.
Any day now, H.R. 2936 will be rushed to the House floor for a vote in time for certain lawmakers to return home to praise by their deep-pocketed timber industry buddies during the August congressional recess.
Sincerely,

Tracy Coppola
Senior Legislative Counsel
