OH MY, I almost felt sorry for the Steelers but then got over that, though I did feel bad for my younger brother because he is the only one in the family who is a Steelers fan ( ??? He was raised better than that!!! 😃 ). BILLS, YOU STILL MAKE ME WANNA SHOUT!!!

The Bills (7-4) are 3.5-point road favorites as they travel to face the Pittsburgh Steelers (6-5) at Acrisure Stadium. The game begins at 4:25 pm and will air on CBS.

Buffalo may face a dinged-up Aaron Rodgers or QB2 Mason Rudolph. Either way, Josh Allen gives Buffalo a big edge under center. This could be a close one, but I'll side with Buffalo.

This is a have-to for both these teams. Both are coming off road losses. The Steelers might have Aaron Rodgers back in this one, which they need. The Bills will have extra rest after playing last Thursday. That will give them time to get back on track. I think the Bills passing game will light up the Steelers pass defense. Bills take it.

What we're hearing on the Bills: Protecting the football will be paramount for the Bills. Not only is this game on the road, where the Bills have scored fewer than 20 points in all three road losses, but Pittsburgh is tied for second in the NFL in takeaways (20). Buffalo has three straight games with three turnovers, the team's longest single-season streak since 2006. Four straight would be the longest since 1986. What we're hearing on the Steelers: Pittsburgh will be without LT Broderick Jones (neck) as QB Aaron Rodgers attempts to return with a fractured left wrist, but perhaps an even more impactful absence is rookie DT Derrick Harmon. Though the first-round pick didn't exit early in the loss to Chicago, he sustained a knee injury that will keep him out against Buffalo. Led by RB James Cook III and his 98.2 yards per game, the Bills lead the NFL with 147.2 rushing yards per game. The Steelers run defense has improved recently, holding teams to an average of 105.0 yards per game. Bold prediction: Bills WR Khalil Shakir will record at least 90 receiving yards. Steelers nickel corner Brandin Echols is allowing 1.4 yards per coverage snap, the second-most among slot corners with at least 150 coverage snaps, per NFL Next Gen Stats. -- Walder

Fantasy nugget: The Bills' defensive front ranks 19th in run stop win rate (29.7%) and has given up the eighth-most fantasy points per game to RBs. I have the Bills winning this, but by a field goal, so it's all about that hook.

Buffalo has suffered road losses to Atlanta, Houston and Miami in the last seven weeks, and the Steelers put up a good fight in Chicago last week.

The Steelers have the defensive playmaking ability to take advantage of a sloppy-of-late Bills offense and keep this close.

Hanford: Bills (-3.5)

I run the risk of getting bit by another hook here, but I just can't see a world where an angry and frustrated Bills team doesn't come in and hang points on a bad Steelers defense.

Maybe the Steelers are able to pressure Josh Allen as Houston did last Thursday, but the Pittsburgh defense doesn't have the speed, physicality or coaching that allow a duo like Will Anderson Jr. and Danielle Hunter to put Allen on the ground repeatedly.

The Bills have their warts, but their receiving core is built for the quick game that has been Pittsburgh's Achilles' heel all year.

Even if Aaron Rodgers is back, I don't see the firepower to attack Buffalo's shaky defense. Bills by a touchdown.

Why Brooke picked the Steelers: Pittsburgh's back is against the wall after Baltimore leapfrogged it last week to claim the top spot in the division. The Steelers are optimistic Aaron Rodgers will return after missing last week with a left wrist injury. Rodgers has been efficient, but he is averaging fewer than 200 pass yards per game, which would be his lowest mark over a season as a starter. The Steelers have a lot of questions offensively, but they could lean on their ground attack for the second straight week, especially with the Bills allowing the third-most rush yards per game (148.9) and second-most yards per carry (5.3) this season. After all, Jaylen Warren and Kenneth Gainwell nearly ran Pittsburgh to victory last week with Mason Rudolph in at QB. Conversely, the Bills should feel pretty good about facing a Steelers defense that ranks in the bottom five in yards allowed and bottom half of the league in points allowed. What's worrisome is the health of Bills tackles Spencer Brown (shoulder) and Dion Dawkins (concussion). So, too, is how Josh Allen has fared on the road in 2025. He has scored just seven offensive touchdowns in five road games (21 TDs in six home contests), while Buffalo has averaged nearly 10 fewer points per game on the road (23.2) than at Highmark Stadium (32.5). Plus, the Bills are 2-3 on the road (5-1 at home). The Terrible Towels make Pittsburgh a tough place to play, and that defense could quite easily turn the game on its head if T.J. Watt, Nick Herbig and Alex Highsmith can regularly get into the backfield. I'm not sure I trust either one of these outfits at this moment, but I'll take the home team in a close one.

HERE is a football player who deserves the respect of all in the nfl and society in general, but instead of being praised for raising awareness about domestic violence by wearing purple shoes William Gay has been fined by the league for being out of uniform. The NFL just fined a player for wearing purple football shoes to raise awareness about domestic violence. Seriously. The player, William Gay, knows all too well about domestic violence--his mother was murdered by his abusive stepfather when he was eight-years old. Clearly, the NFL has no clue how to respond to the issue of domestic violence. So let's show them, and thank Gay for raising awareness about an issue that affects one in four women. October is both breast cancer awareness month and domestic violence awareness month. And while both are important issues for women, there's one the NFL would rather not talk about. While players, teams, and even stadiums are awash in pink to raise awareness for breast cancer, purple shoes are not allowed. The NFL is all about protecting its image. That's why it has warned its players not to make waves off the field. But that's exactly what we need when it comes to domestic violence, an issue that the league has tried to bury. Gay has spoken out and said that he will pay the fine, but he hopes that the NFL will donate it to support domestic violence survivors.⁵ Other players, and the league, are watching to see how the public responds. N.F.L. Player Punished for Purple Shoes

William Gay, a cornerback for the Pittsburgh Steelers, is preparing to pay a $5,797 fine this week because he wore purple cleats for a game on Sunday. The unsanctioned footwear was his way to honor his mother, who was murdered by her partner when the future footballer was only eight years old.

The N.F.L., however, was unmoved by Mr. Gay’s very public effort to highlight the dangers of domestic violence. He was out of uniform, period. If you thought Sgt. Emil Foley, the terror in “An Officer and A Gentleman,” was the worst possible stickler for the perfectly shined belt buckle, the N.F.L. is also in the running. The players’ uniforms have to be, well, uniform.

The N.F.L. apparently has such strict rules about exactly what a player cannot wear on the field that it also fined two other Pittsburgh players for trying to remember their deceased relatives. The two — Cameron Heyward, a defensive end, and DeAngelo Williams, a running back — were adding messages to the streaks of eye black that are supposed to reduce glare. Okay, some players and fans go overboard with so much eye black they look like Alice Cooper. But these were small and tasteful messages that were very hard for anybody but the N.F.L. to see.

Mr. Heyward had the words “Iron” and “Head” on his eye blacks. His father, Craig “Ironhead” Heyward, died of brain cancer. And Mr. Williams, whose mother died of breast cancer, wore eye black with the message “Find the Cure”.

It apparently didn’t matter to the National Football League that October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. It is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the league does allow pink cleats in October to showcase the need to support this important cause. (The N.F.L. site even sells certified N.F.L. gear with touches of pink during October).

So far, the N.F.L. has not said how they will use the money collected from these players. That should be an easy call. Send this money straight to the worthy organizations that fight cancer and domestic violence.

Bills can't sustain early rhythm in loss to Steelers 25AUG12

OH MAN, the coaches and players need to get their heads out of their asses a start playing football. This is discouraging, but then remember the 4 years the Bills went to the Super Bowl they had really bad preseason records...Come on Bills, we do love ya, give us reason to SHOUT!!!!

It was the main dress rehearsal for Buffalo’s starters and the offense and defense got off to a good start, but they could not sustain their level of play throughout the first half. A turnover led to a momentum shift for Pittsburgh and the Steelers carried it into the second half with three takeaways all leading to touchdowns in a 38-7 win over the Bills. “What I told the players after the game was two things that probably stuck in my craw a little bit more than anything else,” said head coach Chan Gailey. “You cannot turn the ball over and I thought when they came off their own goal line, right before half and completed that long pass we got a little bit rattled. We have to hold our composure better than we did.”
Buffalo’s special teams unit set up the offense and defense with great field position early. An opening touchback by and a punt downed at the Steelers four-yard line by after the Bills’ first possession gave the defense a pair of long fields.
The Buffalo defense sent Pittsburgh three-and-out on each of their first two possessions, with the Bills offense getting drive starts at midfield on their first two opportunities with the football. and company got things moving on their second drive. picked up 23 yards on back-to-back carries of 15 and eight yards.
That was followed by a 25-yard pass play from Fitzpatrick to on a deep crossing pattern to set up 1^st-and-goal at the Steelers one-yard line. Jackson capped the drive on second and goal to put the Bills up 7-0 after ’s extra point with 10 minutes left in the opening quarter.
“The offensive line did a great job getting me out on the safeties,” said Jackson. “They figured out what they were doing on defense and were able to pick it up. Once we did that we were able to move the ball.”
Buffalo’s third possession looked promising after a 23-yard hook-up between Fitzpatric
k and to move the Bills out close to midfield. But the drive stalled thanks to a sack sandwiched around a pair of incomplete passes. The Bills defense got another big stop as and combined on a big 3^rd-and-1 stop on Jonathan Dwyer to force another Pittsburgh punt. Barnett had 10 tackles in just a half of work, and had a pair of sacks.
“It was a collective effort,” said Williams of the defense’s early success. “All of us up front, we were just going. It was all about getting pressure and getting up field vertically. We just play off of one another and somebody is going to get there.”
On the ensuing possession however, was stripped on a first down carry by Lawrence Timmons, with Steelers defensive lineman Ziggy Hood grabbing the loose ball in mid-air for the recovery at the Buffalo 17-yard line. The Steelers pounded the ball into the end zone on a 3^rd-and-goal from the two-yard line with Isaac Redman getting in on a second effort run to tie the score (7-7) with just under eight minutes left in the half.
Fitzpatrick and Buffalo’s offense never recovered after that, managing just a six-play drive and a three-play drive before the end of the half and the end of the night for the starters. The Bills starting quarterback finished the night 7-18 passing for 89 yards.
“We ended up in 3^rd-and-10 tonight,” said head coach Chan Gailey. “You cannot do that. We missed about two blocks. I though Fitz read really well tonight. He knew what was happening. We are getting him hit too much. That stuff has got to stop.”
“The first third down we had the ball got batted down on the line, just something happened on every drive,” said Fitzpatrick. “That’s part of football and sometimes it just doesn’t go your way. There was just one thing on every drive that kept us from completing the drive or continuing the drive. That comes down to consistency and that’s something we need to get better at.”
Following a failed two-minute drive by the Bills offense, Ben Roethlisberger orchestrated a 99-yard drive with 1:46 left in the half, completing a 33-yard pass to Jonathan Dwyer on 3^rd-and-9 from his own three-yard line to keep the drive alive.
Eight plays later, Roethlisberger hit Antonio Brown on an inside-out route for a six-yard touchdown catch and a 14-7 lead at the half.
“We started out very well on defense,” said Barnett. “We were very physical in the run. Up to that last drive we really were playing very sound and mental-error free football. We have to keep it up.”
brought the second team offense on to start the second half, but an ill-advised pass thrown back across the field late on a scramble that was intended for was picked off by Troy Polamalu at the Bills 39-yard line.
One play later Byron Leftwich hit Brown for his second touchdown of the night on a deep post to beat and safety Da’Norris Searcy for a 39-yard pass play and a 21-7 edge.
Young had trouble moving the ball and had a second pass picked off when Robert Golden jumped an out route by and took the pass the other way 47 yards to the Buffalo 10-yard line. It took the Steelers two plays to reach the end zone with a 10-yard pass from Leftwich to Derrick Williams to put the game out of reach (28-7) with 10 minutes left.
Pittsburgh’s third stringers added a field goal and touchdown drive late in the fourth quarter to complete the scoring.
The Bills close out the preseason next Thursday at Detroit against the Lions with a 7 pm kickoff at Ford Field. However, Buffalo must trim 10 players from their roster to get down to the required 75 by 4 pm on Monday.
