Season’s Greetings from the Playing For Change Foundation!
2010 has been a year of tremendous growth and many exciting milestones for the Foundation. We were thrilled to play a role in the creation and opening of two new schools in Africa, two new programs in Asia, and the expansion and growth of PFCF programs already in session in South Africa and Nepal. The support of the Playing For Change community-- especially the generous contributions from our donors-- has made this all possible. We cannot express enough gratitude to everyone who has been a part of our vision to create peace and change through music and arts education.
In addition to our schools and programs, we have also been hard at work building our new website. If you have not done so already, we invite you to stop by playingforchange.org and check out all the latest videos, photos, news stories, student and teacher bios, and more! Another incredible moment came this past November, when we were invited by our friends at Theatre Within to take part in the 30th Annual John Lennon Tribute Concert in New York City, celebrating Lennon’s life and work in the year of what would have been his 70th birthday. Legendary artists Jackson Browne, Keb’ Mo’, Taj Mahal, Patti Smith, Vusi Mahlasela, Aimee Mann, and others graced the stage, along with our very own Playing For Change Band! It was an evening to remember as artists and audience members shared in celebrating John Lennon’s music and vision of PEACE.
We are excited to carry the momentum from the John Lennon Tribute Concert forward into the New Year as we launch the Power to the People campaign. John Lennon’s quest to advocate for peace through music is at the heart of PFCF’s mission, and we are honored to have the blessing and generous support of Yoko Ono as we join music lovers around the world in shaping this unique and participatory campaign. The campaign seeks to advance John Lennon’s vision of peace by engaging artists and audiences to contribute to music education programs worldwide. Proceeds raised will help build music schools, support teachers and music programs, purchase instruments, and connect schools for cross-cultural learning and conflict resolution across borders. Music IS the power: Power to the People!
From all of us at the Playing For Change Foundation, we wish you a safe and happy holiday season surrounded by friends and family, and a very happy New Year. Thank you for being a part of our journey, and we look forward to continuing together in 2011!
One Love,
Whitney Kroenke
