Paul Ryan is definitely concerned with unemployment--his. So as a backup against losing his bid to become Vice President, he is also running for his House seat as well and has started running ads in Milwaukee urging voters to elect him to Congress again. Wisconsin law allows candidates to run for multiple offices at the same time, but if they are elected to more than one, have to make a choice. Ryan's House opponent is Rob Zerban, a former Kenosha County official. When the Democrats chose Zerban, they did not know Ryan would be on the national ticket. Had they foreseen this, they would have surely chosen a higher-profile candidate. The downside of running for the House for Ryan is the accusation that he has little faith in his chances on the national ticket, so he wants a backup job, just in case.

Paul Ryan buys TV ads for House race

Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan will spend $2 million on TV ads asking Wisconsin voters to send him back to the House of Representatives, POLITICO has learned.
Ryan’s congressional campaign manager Kevin Seifert confirmed that House Budget Committee chairman plans to spend $1.5 million on ads on local broadcast stations and cable in Milwaukee. The campaign will spend an additional $500,000 on ads in Madison between Oct. 18 and Nov. 6.

On the Milwaukee NBC affiliate alone, Ryan for Congress has already spent $65,000 on ad buys this month, according to records filed with the Federal Communications Commission. The ads will air from Sept. 12 through Sept. 25 on programs including local news broadcasts, Meet the Press, The Tonight Show, and Sunday Night Football.

The ads will be funded by his congressional campaign committee, which had $5.4 million in its coffers in July, before he was named as Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney’s running mate.
Ryan is facing Rob Zerban, a former Kenosha County official. Zerban had $558,000 in his campaign reserves in July, according to federal reports.
Zerban spokesperson Karthik Ganapathy said the campaign was not surprised to hear about Ryan’s ad buy.
“We knew this was coming for quite a while now,” Ganapathy told POLITICO. “He’s spending $2 million on ads this cycle in the district. That’s more than he has spent in the past. He’s clearly worried about something.”
Ganapthy said Zerban’s campaign has become more optimistic about their chances of defeating the seven-term congressman since he was named Romney’s running mate.
“We’ve seen a lot more media attention and money come in,” he said. “A lot of people are excited about the possibility of beating Paul Ryan.”
Ryan is allowed to appear on the ballot simultaneously as Mitt Romney’s running mate and as a House candidate, but cannot serve in both offices at the same time.Two Democratic VP candidates in recent years have appeared twice on the ballot — Joe Biden running for re-election to the Senate in Delaware in 2008, and Joe Lieberman running for re-election to the Senate in Connecticut in 2000. Both won their Senate races.
Ryan campaign manager Seifert told the Associated Press, which first reported the ad buys, that the first ad will focus on “the importance of electing leaders who are capable of advancing solutions that get America back on track and provide a prosperous future for our children and grandchildren.

Romney Rips Paul Ryan: Calls Running Mate’s Vote For Defense Cuts ‘A Big Mistake’ 8SEP12

THE gop / tea-bagger presidential ticket is already turning on each other with mitt robme slamming the repiglican controlled House (including lyin' paul ryan, his running mate) for voting for sequestration, which, if enacted, will mandate huge cuts in defense spending. His vote for sequestration isn't stopping lyin' ryan from now condemning his own vote on the campaign trail. Oh what a tangled web they are weaving. Mitt Romney, campaigning in Virginia today, hammered President Obama for supporting cuts in defense spending.
NBC’s David Gregory, in an interview with Romney scheduled to be aired in full tomorrow, noted that the cuts were part of the compromise to end the debt ceilling crisis and were supported by the entire GOP leadership. An excerpt:

MITT ROMNEY: Well, I want to maintain defense spending at the current level of the GDP. I don’t want to keep bringing it down as the president’s doing. This sequestration idea of the White House, which is cutting our defense, I think is an extraordinary miscalculation in the wrong direction.
DAVID GREGORY: Republican leaders agreed to that deal to the extend the debt ceiling.
MITT ROMNEY: And that’s a big mistake. I thought it was a mistake on the part of the White House to propose it. I think it was a mistake for Republicans to go along with it.

Among the GOP leaders who made “a big mistake” and voted for the cuts was his running mate, Paul Ryan. That hasn’t stopped Paul Ryan, however, from also crticizing the sequestor on the campaign trail.

Voters to Personhood: Stick a Fork In It. You’re Done (UNLESS ROMNEY-RYAN ARE ELECTED) 30AUG12

THE repiglican's & tea-bagger's right wing social engineers won't have a personhood amendment on any state ballot on election day, the first time in a couple of years. Some think the threat is over, but if mitt romney is elected along with a repiglican / tea-bagger controlled House and Senate the threat comes roaring back and women's rights and their access to birth control and safe abortion when needed are all gone. Break out the burqas, christian sharia is on the way....

This year, voters have overwhelmingly rejected personhood initiatives sending  messages to personhood proponents, as in:  ‘over.’  ‘Finito.’  Not interested. The fat lady has sung and your idea is a loser.
You would have thought the writing was on the wall.  Last November, voters in Mississippi decisively defeated a personhood initiative which, if passed, would have amended the state Constitution to grant legal rights to fertilized eggs, and in the process ban many forms of hormonal contraception and in-vitro fertilization, not to mention all abortions – without exceptions.  Mississippians resoundingly rejected that proposal by a 16- point margin.  And that was in Mississippi, arguably the most conservative state in the nation.
Apparently, the message wasn’t clear enough.   Instead of realizing that this extreme proposal would not gain traction anywhere, personhood proponents announced their intention to get proposals on the ballot in not one, but one dozen states this year.  But as in Mississippi, voters weren’t buying what they were selling and they fell well short of their mark.  Voters across the country—in Oklahoma, Ohio, Oregon, Mississippi (again), Montana, Nevada, Arkansas, Florida and California—all declined to sign petitions in large enough numbers to even put the question on their ballots this fall. And that’s not including the states where politicians tried to pass personhood legislation—that too went nowhere (I’m looking at you Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, Iowa, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Washington and Wisconsin).
Up until yesterday, it looked like fetal personhood would only be able to make it on the ballot this year in just one state: Colorado, the home of Personhood USA (the national organization behind these efforts); a state with, let’s be honest, one of the lowest thresholds in the country for petitioning measures onto the ballot.  Out of a population of over 5 million, they needed only 86,105 valid signatures -- or 1.7 percent of the public – to get the initiative on the ballot.  Indeed, Colorado is the only state where personhood proponents have succeeded twice in getting on the ballot in the past-- in 2008 and again in 2010.  Both times, voters rejected fetal personhood by a 2 to 1 margin. This year was different—they couldn’t even find 1.7 percent of the public willing to sign their petition, let alone vote on it.  Two percent of voters think Mitt Romney’s first name is “Mittens” for crying out loud.    If you can’t find 2 percent of voters who agree with you, it’s time to throw in the towel.  Time to pack your bags and go home.  The voters have spoken and they’re not interested.

Uygur: Did David Koch buy Paul Ryan the VP slot? 25AUG12

THE koch brothers are the biggest threat to our Republic ever because their vast wealth is so corrupting they are able to buy almost anyone they want. It comes as no surprise they probably bought rep paul ryan's place on the gop / tea-bagger presidential ticket, his budget proposal combined with mitt romney's greed serves them well. We are dangerously close to becoming a plutocracy, the election of romney-ryan will advance the koch agenda of achieving that goal much closer to fruition. From the Raw Story.....

On Friday night’s edition of “The Young Turks,” host Cenk Uygur highlighted a report by controversial Republican political operative Roger Stone. The report alleges that vice presidential nominee Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) arrived at his place on the ticket through the machinations of David Koch, half of the powerful billionaire Koch brothers.
Stone claims to have heard from sources inside the presidential campaign of former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney that the governor was approached at a fundraiser in the Hamptons (the notorious “We are V.I.P.!” bash) by David Koch and his wife.
Koch, who has worked cheek by jowl with the Wisconsin Republican cabal that launched the career of Gov. Scott Walker and famously stalled out that state’s government for months in 2011, reportedly offered Romney an additional $100 million in campaign donations to C-4 and super PAC organizations dedicated to Romney’s election on the condition that Romney take Ryan as his running mate.
“In other words,” said Uygur, “a flat-out bribe. Now, I give you a $100 million for your campaign, and you give me the VP selection that I want. Now this is not a Democrat or a reporter reporting this, it’s a Republican, and that’s fascinating. If it’s true, by the way, 100 percent illegal.”
Uygur specifically points to one key piece of Ryan’s platform as a possible motivation for the billionaire conservative’s investment in his own vice president. Ryan wants to lower the capital gains tax — already low at 15 percent — to zero, which would bring David Koch personally an estimated $187.5 million per year. ($750 million over a four year term.)
“That’s why they bribe the politicians,” Uygur said. “What’s outrageous is that we allow them to do it.”
