AMERICA has never been an advocate of universal voting rights. States have their own rules and regulations on registering to vote and voting. The best systems worldwide are those which the central governments establish the regulations (like registering citizens to vote at 18 when they turn 16) and maintain the voter registration list for the electorate nationally. The "save act" would purge millions off voter registration list because the documents that would be required to vote in a federal election were never provided in some states. NOT MY pres The neo-nazi fascist House has already passed the "save act" so the ACLU is asking people to contact their senators telling them to defeat it in the Senate (and it will be good to e mail your representative to let them know to vote against it if it comes back to the House for a second vote).

Craig, President Trump signed an executive order that would make it harder for millions of people to vote – and while we're taking him to court for it, the House just passed a bill to do the same. The SAVE Act would be an absolute disaster for our voting rights. It mandates faulty voter purges and requires in-person citizenship documentation for voter registration so intense that an estimated 21 million people would have difficulty accessing the appropriate papers. And that bill has already passed the House – so it's absolutely essential that we put the pressure on the Senate now to stop this legislation and protect our voting rights.
This legislation – and President Trump's executive order – would disenfranchise millions of eligible voters, particularly voters of color, women voters, naturalized citizens, voters with disabilities, voters with low incomes, and first-time voters. It would create major, unnecessary barriers to voting – and for anyone who's changed their name, including married people and trans people, the hurdles are even higher. We're taking the President to court for his order – which not only violates our rights, but far exceeds the powers of the presidency. And now we must work together to stop this legislation from passing through the Senate. Adding unnecessary barriers to voter registration does nothing but silence us and shut millions of eligible voters out of our democracy. Tell Congress: Vote no on the SAVE Act. Thanks for fighting with us, Molly McGrath |
