Dear Habitat friend,
Each year more and more people observe World Habitat Day,
which the United Nations designated the first Monday in October as a
means of spotlighting the world’s shelter needs. And each year at this
time, Habitat for Humanity renews its own emphasis on the plight of
substandard housing across the globe and on the role decent shelter
plays in alleviating poverty and creating sustainable communities.
Last year, Habitat for Humanity groups organized World Habitat Day events in nearly 400 communities worldwide. This year, as we reflect on the theme of “Many Homes, One Community,” we want to make our collective voice even louder.
I urge you to sign our Pledge to End Poverty Housing as one of the ways that we can speak as one voice on this issue.
World Habitat Day is on Oct. 1, and we will cap the observance of this
special day with a return to Haiti on November 23, where volunteers will
complete a two-year commitment in support of Habitat’s rebuilding
efforts by building 100 more homes during the 29th annual Jimmy &
Rosalynn Carter Work Project.
Stand up in your community and help us demonstrate how decent, affordable housing transforms lives and communities!
Thanks for your commitment and support.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Reckford
