Now's your chance. Last week, Michigan Energy, Michigan Jobs submitted more than 500,000 signatures in support of a measure that will appear on the ballot in November to ensure that 25 percent of Michigan's energy comes from renewable sources such as wind and solar by 2025.
You can join the NRDC Action Fund and scores of Michigan businesses, organizations, individuals and public officials who are already supporting this ballot issue. To learn more on how you can help Michigan reach 25 percent by 2025 visit the Michigan Energy, Michigan Jobs website.
Here's why this proposal is a win-win-win:
Win #1-Job Creation
Currently, Michigan imports its energy from other states and countries. This means jobs and billions of dollars are being sent outside of the state. This ballot proposal will help Michigan build a clean energy industry at home, allowing residents to stop exporting their money and jobs. The proposal would also establish incentives to hire Michigan workers.
Win #2-Reduced Energy Prices
Economists predict that in the long run a better energy system could actually reduce energy bills for Michigan families. The proposal would also limit consumer rate increases related to the generation or purchase of renewable energy to no more than one percent per year.
Win #3-Public Health
Renewable energy sources such as wind and solar are clean energy sources, which will reduce pollution and further protect the health of all Michigan families. This proposal will give Michigan cleaner and healthier air and water. It will protect the Great Lakes, reduce asthma and lung disease and ultimately save lives.
What happens in Michigan affects all of us. A strong renewable energy standard will fight climate change everywhere and help to lower the cost of renewable energy for everyone by boosting the domestic industry.
The NRDC Action Fund is proud to stand with our friends in Michigan as we march toward a win for all of us this November.
Thanks for everything you do,
Peter Lehner
