Saying The Obvious Out Loud 15JUL12

BRAVO!!!!!! Bravo Jon (Bowzer) Bauman!!!
As an activist who spends enormous amounts of time these days lending my semi-celebrity to campaigns, I'm just as prone to rooting around in the weeds as the next political junkie. But sometimes it seems to me the forest is never even named because we are always so laser-focused on the trees.
Take the constant Republican thrust to privatize Social Security and turn Medicare into a voucher system. We Progressives get instantly angry about this and use it effectively as a campaign tool, but none of us ever seems to call it out for what it really is -- simply a shameless way of accruing massive campaign contributions.
I'm sick of people searching around for motives other than the obvious. Why bother? Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell was kind enough to say his real motive out loud: "The most important thing we want to achieve is to make Barack Obama a one-term president." To regain power, not to work with each other to do the right thing for the American people. Don't we understand human nature well enough to get that, especially when you're dealing with readers of Ayn Rand, you don't have to look too far beyond massive greed and lust for power for people's motivations. We are in the era of Citizens United, when an activist Supreme Court has unconstitutionally equated money with speech, and elections and politicians can be bought as never before.
So let's say the obvious out loud:
THE REAL REASON REPUBLICANS ALWAYS WANT TO PRIVATIZE SOCIAL SECURITY IS BECAUSE IF THEY CAN DELIVER HUGE PORTIONS OF THE SOCIAL SECURITY TRUST FUND TO WALL STREET, THE AMOUNT OF MONEY THAT WILL COME BACK TO THEM IN CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONS FROM WALL STREET IS UNTHINKABLE.
THE REAL REASON REPUBLICANS WANT TO TURN MEDICARE INTO A VOUCHER SYSTEM IS THAT IF THEY CAN DELIVER BILLIONS OF DOLLARS OF MEDICARE FUNDING BACK TO PRIVATE INSURANCE COMPANIES, THE AMOUNT OF MONEY THAT WILL COME BACK TO THEM IN CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONS FROM PRIVATE INSURANCE COMPANIES IS UNFATHOMABLE.
That's the end of my little blog, because I want you all to think about how obvious and true this is. And then I want you all to keep repeating it.
