Dear Volunteers,
Last
month the Republicans forced to the House floor a bill that would make
abortions for the purpose of selecting the gender of a child a felony.
They knew there was no chance of getting the bill signed into law or for
that matter getting it to the White House. Still, the Republicans could
not lose.
The
issue they proposed to legislate does not exist. The sting operation
conducted by the anti-choicers was trumped up solely for the purposes of
making the debate a wider issue and creating the impression that
pro-choice and Planned Parenthood just want more abortions.
Voice
of Choice would like to turn the tables once again, this time on people
who think they can limit choice by dividing the general public. We
would like to write and introduce legislation that would make it a
felony to give healthcare advice to a pregnant woman if you are not a
currently licensed healthcare professional. That would include clergy,
"option" centers, and the protesting general public.
The
legislation would include anyone that provides information about the
risks of abortion, "options", cancer, or emotional distress. It would
include people who hold signs that offer dubious medical claims like
"abortion is murder" or "abortion stops a beating heart" or claims that a
fetus can feel pain (all interpreted as medical opinion) in places
pregnant women might read them.
If they can introduce bills that restrict access and divide the nation, we can introduce bills to make their lives harder.
I
need help. I am looking for someone to draft the bill and for people
willing to bring the draft to their state delegates and representatives
in the House and Senate to have it introduced.
If you can help please respond to this email.
Thank you,
Todd
