The Fairfax Times Endorses Jeff Barnett! 20OKT10

The Fairfax Times has endorsed Jeff Barnett in the 10th Congressional District. This is the first time that the Times, one of Northern Virginia's most prominent newspapers, has not endorsed Frank Wolf in 28 years.  Click here to visit the Fairfax Times website, and scroll below to see the full endorsement.
Barnett in 10th District
Democrat Jeff Barnett spent much of the past year telling residents of the 10th District that Frank Wolf has done some good things during his 30 years in Congress.
Barnett is also quick to point out that the district desperately needs some fresh ideas and newfound energy.
For the first time in 14 election cycles, we agree.
Wolf has a solid reputation for constituent service and a respectable list of legislative accomplishments -- securing federal funds for Metro's Silver Line and anti-gang initiatives among them -- but we feel he's been reading from the same playbook for the better part of a decade.
In Barnett, a retired Air Force colonel whose most recent job involved advising corporate and government leaders on the information age, we see someone who is tailor-made to lead a district that boasts an array of technological industries and government defense contractors.
We certainly like Barnett's emphasis on creating and preserving jobs, which includes providing tax incentives for small businesses to expand as well as helping area firms innovate and compete in the global marketplace.
We also like his thoughts on reducing the federal deficit, expanding lifelong education opportunities and leveraging Northern Virginia's proximity to Washington, D.C., to get more federal road and transit money. As a 26-year military veteran who spent time keeping the peace in some of the world's hottest war zones, he also has some interesting thoughts on making the U.S. military leaner and meaner.
Frank Wolf, as always, is a good, safe choice.
Jeff Barnett, who radiates energy and optimism, is a better one.
