NORTON META TAG

02 September 2010

We've broken through our goal of getting 100 members of Congress and candidates to sign the Fight Washington Corruption pledge. But Jeff Barnett still hasn't signed.

Can you call Jeff Barnett, the Democratic candidate in Virginia's 10th district, and ask him if he'll sign the pledge too? Here's the number:

I CALLED Mr. Barnett's campaign office in Herndon, VA and left a message and e mailed his campaign about this on 30 AUG and still no response....a reaction much like Rep Frank Wolf's reaction to an issue he doesn't want to deal with......and very disappointing. Mr. Barnett, if you won't sign a simple pledge to fight Washington corruption, just what will you commit to?
From MoveOn.org
Earlier this month, we set a goal of having 100 candidates and members of Congress sign on to the Fight Washington Corruption pledge. Great news! As of this morning we're at 114 and we've now increased our goal to 150 politician signers by Sep. 10!
But here's the thing—Jeff Barnett, the Democratic candidate in Virginia's 10th district still isn't one of those.
Last week MoveOn members called Jeff Barnett's campaign to tell them about the pledge, but the campaign hasn't said yet whether Jeff Barnett will sign. We're asking politicians to sign on by Sep. 10, so can you call Jeff Barnett and ask him whether or not he'll sign the pledge?

Be sure to say that you live in the district. Then say something like this:
Hi, my name is ___. I live in Virginia's 10th district. I'm calling to see if Jeff Barnett will sign the Fight Washington Corruption Pledge or not.
114 candidates have now signed the pledge. MoveOn will release the list of all signers at the end of the congressional recess so it's important that Jeff Barnett make his decision known soon. The pledge commits politicians to stop taking corporate money and get corporate influence out of our politics by supporting a three point plan:
  • Overturn the Supreme Court decisions allowing unlimited corporate spending on elections;
  • Support Fair Elections—Provide public financing to grassroots candidates so they can compete; and
  • End backroom deals with corporate lobbyists by making all lobbying activity public, and shutting the revolving door between K Street and the government.
Will Jeff Barnett sign this pledge?
He can go to www.fightwashingtoncorruption.com to learn more and to sign.

Thanks for all you do.
