Tell Congress to Ensure Free, Fair, and Safe Elections JUNI 2020

ROCK THE VOTE & U.S. VOTE FOUNDATION

WE all know the drumpf / trump-pence administration along with the gop / greed over people-republican party will do everything possible to prevent as many Democratic Party and progressive independents from voting on TUESDAY, 3 NOVEMBER 2020. Please sign this  Sojourners petition to Congress calling for funding to guarantee free, fair and safe elections. Here is the letter that will be sent to your representative and senators, once you fill in your information be sure to open each letter so they are sent to your representative and senators
Dear Representative xxxxxx,
On May 11 you received a letter from a diverse group of denominational leaders from the breadth of the church, including the African-American Clergy Network, the National Council of Churches, the National Association of Evangelicals, the National Latino Evangelical Coalition, and more.
As your constituent, I stand with these faith leaders to say that we believe that each person, and therefore each voter, is made in the image of God and that any effort to discourage or suppress their vote assaults their human dignity and undermines our democracy.  The right to vote and people’s ability to exercise that right is fundamental to the health and integrity of our democracy and country. We also believe that voting is a sacred right and commitment, particularly given our nation’s long struggle to extend the right to vote to every eligible citizen regardless of factors such as race and gender.
I am writing to urge you to include the following in the next CARE legislation:
  • At least $4 billion in additional funding ensure every state in the nation has both the resources and proper mandate to put in place measures and policies that will enable a free, fair, and safe election, including:  the implementation of comprehensive policies that expand voter registration, in-person early voting, no-excuse absentee voting by mail, voter education, and safe in-person voting on Election Day.
  • Ensure additional funds are used to help recruit and pay for a surge of poll workers who will be desperately needed due to the increased risk that COVID-19 poses to the elderly population that disproportionately serves in these roles.
This will require bold leadership, sound coordination and building new capacity.  Any delay will risk losing valuable months, making these critical changes less effective, and in some cases impossible to put in place in time for November.
Providing the necessary resources, leadership, and policies to enable every eligible citizen to exercise their fundamental right to vote must be a bipartisan priority and nonpartisan issue.  The COVID-19 crisis has the potential to unite and bring out the best in our nation or to further divide and separate us.  Our congregations and communities are anxious to work with you and support you in prioritizing this funding and these key policy measures so that our nation can come through this crisis stronger and more united.
Prayerfully,

Tell Congress to Ensure Free, Fair, and Safe Elections

The 2020 U.S. presidential election is on the horizon, but racist voter suppression and new challenges stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic mean the right to vote is under attack. If you care about our democracy, now is the time to act. Use the form below to advocate for Congress to immediately:
  • Appropriate at least $4 billion in additional funding to ensure every state can enable a free, fair, and safe election through:
    • Expanded voter registration
    • In-person early voting
    • No-excuse absentee voting by mail
    • Voter education
    • Safe in-person voting on Election Day
  • Ensure additional funds are used to help recruit and pay for a surge of poll workers who will be desperately needed due to the increased risk that COVID-19 poses to the elderly population that disproportionately serves in these roles.
