Go Green: Save the Dugong!
Ok, what’s a dugong? It’s a cousin of the manatee, and it lives in Japan — at least for now. Between 20 and 50 dugong live and feed in the coral reefs of Oura Bay, where the U.S. military plans to build a military airstrip. The airstrip would landfill the very coral reef that these endangered creatures call home, threatening their extinction!
It’s time to save the coral reefs and the dugong! Take action and tell Secretary of Defense, Robert Gates to stop plans for the airstrip.
Green tips in time for Earth Day
This is the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, and to celebrate, we’d like to share some simple tips that are good for the environment and for you:
* Use non-toxic cleaning alternatives at home.
* Choose reusable items like mugs, lunch containers, pens, razors, etc.
* Take your own bags to the grocery store.
* Buy locally. Not only is it good for the local economy, it will save energy because products haven’t traveled across the globe to get to you.
* Use compact fluorescent light bulbs — it saves you money and reduces your carbon footprint.
* Avoid using cars. Walk, cycle or use public transportation whenever possible.
