Right Now Issued 11:00am EST -- Fri, Feb 5, 2010
Winter storm warning in effect until 10 pm est saturday. Much of north central virginia east of the blue ridge, and adjacent portions of maryland, will continue to see light to moderate snow into the early afternoon hours. A band of heavier snow continues from lower southern maryland, Northwestward across the southern and western dc suburbs. This band of snow has been generally slow moving for the past hour and will remain over the same general area into early afternoon. Visibilities will quickly be reduced to under a half mile, with localized areas under a quarter of a mile. This snow band will eventually begin to affect adjacent areas to the north, such as southern montgomery and prince georges counties, and into the district. Initial snowfall activity has led to mainly wet roadways, though accumulations will begin in earnest closer to the noon hour across the area, especially under this heavier band of snow. Use caution while driving late this morning as snowfall becomes heavier. Accumulations through 2 pm expected to be under an inch, though locally higher amounts of 1 to 2 inches will be possible under the heaviest activity.
