While flipping through court documents from Rep. Max Miller’s child custody case, I came across some emails the Ohio Republican had sent to his ex-wife’s then-lawyer. They were bizarre, to say the least.
Miller was threatening to speak out about an alleged connection ex-wife Emily Moreno’s lawyer, Vince Stafford, had to a 2013 murder. Yes, you read that right. Stafford and his brother ran the law firm for which the accused killer worked when he is alleged to have murdered a legal client. Their firm is now being sued in civil court by the slain woman’s daughter, who alleges the firm “helped” conceal the crime.
“You and your brother’s alleged involvement in this is awful…Thanks again for this variable,” Miller wrote in an email requesting Moreno’s lawyer expedite work on his divorce.
“I will be commenting on this if I do not hear anything by end of day,” Miller continued. “I’ll wait until this evening. Enjoy the beautiful day outside!!”
It wasn’t the only time I saw Miller and his team use threats. One of his spokespeople implicitly threatened me with a lawsuit. I also obtained a document suggesting Miller’s longtime lawyer, working on behalf of Miller’s current girlfriend, threatened to accuse a foe of killing their own dog.
The more I cover the embattled congressman, the crazier the saga gets. It’s hard to fit it all in a blurb, so I hope you’ll check out my latest piece.
