HERE is my letter to Virginia Governor Ralph Northam D in opposition to sending Virginia National Guard members to the US-Mexican border
As a constituent, I strongly oppose Donald Trump's move to militarize the U.S-Mexico border.
As governor, you have the power under Title 32 to decline his request to send National Guard troops from our state.
In fact, this was done before - when California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger declined a request by President Bush.
Too many of Virginia's National Guard troops were sent to Iraq to be wounded and killed in an illegal and immoral war. The wounded and the families of the killed, like the other National Guard and regular active duty troops and families, have never received the medical and financial support they are due for their service and sacrifice. While deploying to the US -Mexican border is not combat duty there is always a risk in being deployed. This call for deployment to the border is not justified by any risk to our national security and I expect you to keep Virginia's National Guard troops in Virginia ready to serve when they are really needed to defend our Republic.
I am urging you to reject Trump's deeply misguided, unnecessary and mean-spirited move to militarize our border.

Donald Trump wants to send National Guard troops to militarize the U.S.-Mexico border.
Even though unauthorized border crossings are at their lowest since the Nixon Administration. And the alleged "caravans" he speaks of are mostly Central American women and their kids who are fleeing skyrocketing murder rates, gang violence & political unrest in their countries.
This is politics, pure and simple. Trump is pandering to his right-wing base before the midterm elections—whipping them into further hysteria against immigrants and people of color, as well as trampling on U.S. and international law protecting asylum-seekers.
But Trump can't do it alone. Under Title 32, only the governors may authorize him to deploy National Guard troops. In 2006, California's Republican governor denied such a request from Bush.
Nevada's Republican governor has joined Oregon's Democratic governor in refusing to send troops to the border. Texas & Arizona have sent troops, but the numbers are smaller than requested. New Mexico's Republican governor says she supports it, but has yet to send troops. But California Governor Jerry Brown has been silent on the question.
No matter what state you live in, we need you to contact your governor.
