Clean Air Attack Fails In Senate
U.S. senators, supported by strong appeals from Earthjustice supporters, voted down a blatant attempt to weaken the Clean Air Act. Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) led the failed legislative effort to keep the EPA from regulating greenhouse gases, and while she failed, more such attacks are anticipated. Read More |
EPA To Ban DDT-Like Pesticide
This month, nearly two years after Earthjustice sued on behalf of workers and environmental advocates, the Environmental Protection Agency announced it was moving to ban the DDT-like pesticide endosulfan, a highly toxic pesticide used in orchards and fields. Read More
Yosemite Saved
From Road Builder
Three years of legal struggle by Earthjustice have stopped a developer's plan to build two roads into Yosemite Park. A Fresno judge rejected a land owner and county's claim to right of way under a repealed, Civil War-era law know as R.S. 2477. The roads would have linked Hazel Green's property to Highway 120 within Yosemite, and facilitated its development into a destination hotel and resort. | No Appeal For
Richmond Refinery
This month, Chevron quietly let pass its final opportunity to appeal a court decision that had stopped its expansion of an oil refinery that is the single largest source of greenhouse gas pollution in California. This is a great victory for public disclosure to the refinery's neighbors. Read More
Tongass Protected
For Another Year
Millions of acres of America's roadless national forests—including the Tongass in Alaska—have been given another year's reprieve from most logging and road construction by the Obama administration. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said he wants to more closely study projects in roadless areas, such as the Tongass, as the federal court system deals with legal challenges to the Roadless Rule.
