Don't go to war without Congressional approval 28AUG13

CONGRESS is the branch of our government with the power to declare WAR. Before President Obama commits American service people and material to military action in Syria he must present to Congress his reason for taking military action against Syria and obtain their approval. I am tired of presidents who think they have the power and authority to sacrifice American service personnel in battles and skirmishes of their choice without ever being held accountable for their actions. The American military is not the president's personal militia, and no president has the right, the power, or the authority to send our military into battle without congressional approval. Please sign the petition from USAction / True Majority to Congress demanding congressional approval of any U.S. military action in Syria. Congressional Approval Required

Tell Congress: No military action in Syria without prior Congressional authorization.

If you've read the headlines, you've heard we're heading towards military action in Syria -- with some U.S. military officials saying a missile strike could happen as early as tomorrow.1

Congress has not authorized any such military strike and the President has not given any indication he is going to seek such authorization. Please ask Congress to stand with Rep. Barbara Lee who recently said that "Congress needs to have a full debate before the United States commits to any military force in Syria - or elsewhere."2

Tell Congress: No military action in Syria without prior Congressional authorization.

In the United States Constitution, the power to declare war is expressly in the hands of Congress. The President is able to take military action in emergency cases of self-defense, but that does not appear to be the case with Syria.

Tell Congress: No military action in Syria without prior Congressional authorization.

It's crucial for Americans who care about Congressional war powers to speak up. Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine said, "Absent an imminent threat to United States national security, the U.S. should not be engaged in military action without Congressional approval."3 We agree 100%.

Sincerely,
Ross Wallen
