New Leadership for a New Virginia View this email in your browser Watching History Together The President reminded us of the nobility of citizenship Last night, we watched President Obama’s State of the Union address as I am sure all of you did.  We were fortunate to have nearly 50 fellow Democrats join us in our home to watch the speech and draw their inspiration from the President’s plan for the future.

I was particularly struck by his description of what it means to be a citizen of our Great Nation.  In the President’s words: "We are citizens.  It’s a word that doesn’t just describe our nationality or legal status.  It describes the way we’re made.  It describes what we believe.  It captures the enduring idea that this country only works when we accept certain obligations to one another and to future generations; that our rights are wrapped up in the rights of others; and that well into our third century as a nation, it remains the task of us all, as citizens of these United States, to be the authors of the next great chapter in our American story."   It is up to each of us to be the authors of our future, to protect and promote the kind of free and open society we want for ourselves and our children, both across the Nation and here in our Commonwealth.  Working together, we can do great things to advance our progressive agenda for a better American and a better Virginia.  Join me in this campaign to secure our future.
