This is it. According to the Treasury Department, if Congress doesn’t act by May 16th, we’ll hit the debt ceiling and start a full-blown budget crisis.1

The Obama administration is taking emergency measures to keep the Government running for a few weeks – maybe even as long as August. But we need action, and fast, to get America's financial house in order or else we might have to stop paying Social Security, Medicare payments, tax refunds and more. It's a scenario that Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner warns could have "catastrophic economic impacts."2

Right now, House Republicans are demanding trillions in unnecessary cuts in exchange for action to prevent a government default.3 But there's a better way to balance the budget: make millionaire and billionaire CEOs pay their fair share of taxes.

Shockingly, tax rates for America's richest CEOs are at an all time low. And so far only a handful of leaders have had the courage to demand that millionaires and billionaires pay their fair share to avoid a fiscal crisis. Can you check if your Representative is one of them, and tell them to get on board before it's too late?

Over 40,000 USAction/TrueMajority members told Congress to sign on to support Rep. Schakowsky's Fairness in Taxation Act on tax day. Over a dozen Representatives have signed on already.4 Another 50 have voted for similar legislation, and are considering co-sponsoring.5 Our list of allies grows every day.

But it’s not enough. The House of Representatives is still controlled by the tea party wing of the Republican Party. And right now, they’re refusing to hold a vote to raise the debt ceiling and avert fiscal crisis unless we also make painful cuts to education, Social Security and programs that protect the poor.3

If we can get 100 Representatives to sign on in support of tax fairness this month, we'll be on our way to forcing a vote before the nation defaults on its debts. Will your Representative help? Do they support tax fairness – or are they willing to let the country default so that millionaires and billionaires can keep their bonus checks?

Check here to find out and ask your Rep. to support tax fairness before it’s too late!

Together, we are the true majority.

Sincerely,
Drew Hudson
